TV/Projector: All of them!

I saw one at the local TV station that was state of the art back in 1994 or so. I thought it was amazing. It was used RP at the news desk, and the pix overcame all the studio lights and still looked great. Loud as hell, 220 volts.

The price on CL is really good... if you have a use for such behemoths.

Over 20 extra lamps? Wow.

The thing to do here is to build a well soundproofed projection room in the back of your home theater, and install one of these suckers in there. Just run it. Replace lamps when they blow, swap out units for a good spare when one fries. Keep running 'em until they're all
dead or you run out of lamps. Then take them to the local electronic recycling facility and forget about them.

Those things use a CRT to drive the LCD panel. Neat technology. The CRTS put out IR and the back side of the LCD panels take a charge
when hit with IR light. So, whatever shows on the CRT face ends up on the LCD panel. Actually a simple concept.

If those were near me I'd probably go for it.

If anyone here decides to go for them, when they blow up I'd like to get at least one lens off of one for curiosity's sake. I have a habit
of taking DLP and similar projection lenses and building small telescopes out of them. Some of them end up being quite good,
far outperforming any comparable compact telescope you can buy for less than several thousand dollars.

Unfortunately these are the low rez models, according to the listed spec. not the SXGA+ (type) resolution of some of the other 300/400 series.

Actually, I think the guy's listed specs are wrong if he has the right model number. As I understand it, like CRT, there isn't really a "native" resolution, anyway... But, according to what I found, the Hughes-JVC D340SC is indeed 2000x1280.

http://www.projectorcentral.com/Hughes-JVC-D340SC.htm

That's confirmed in the really interesting PDF I found.

It runs 3325 watts on a 30A/220v line, and puts out over 11,000 BTU's!!!

Oh, and BTW... It's also 369 pounds. Shocked

Somebody buy a couple of these things!!!! Twisted Evil

Talaria is CRT with oil film, as 'stolen' from the Eidophor.

No color wheel is required for those. They have three independent light paths.

AmPro infringed on the light valve patent (Greyhawk Systems, to be precise) and made it work with a single lens tricolor light path system.
It saved considerably on lenses, which started at around four thousand dollars apiece and went up from there.

I have one here with a couple of lenses and about 6 bulbs. $140K new, they rented for $5K a day back in 1986. I paid $500 for mine about 10 years ago, and it's been in the case ever since. I might just set it up outside this summer... but I've been saying that EVERY summer. Mr. Green
