One of my Berklines would not retract this evening. When I got into it I found a bad micro switch. Any ideas on where I can find one of these? Maybe the local Grainger? Also, what little electronics that I had learned is failing me this evening. The black resistor looking device that is inline with the switch. What is this and I assume that I should buy a new one of these as well. Is there any way of telling the value of this from the pictures?
Thanks
Dan

Granger or Allied electronics should have a replacement for the switch.

You are correct. I should have just goggled it first. I have 6 switches on order (good to have spares). Any help on the resistior looking item between the terminals?
Thanks

Looks like a diode across the contacts.

Thats a diode. It can easily be tested with a DMM. Current flows one way, not the other. If it is bad the numbers on it will verify what it is.

Let's call it a 3 way tie and break out the 8 year old Bacardi.

Thanks for the info guys. Just to further my electronics knowledge a little. There are two microswitches that are wired in parallel each with a diode. These wire back to a small board that also has the power for the 24v dc motor going into the board. There are no type of electronics on this board. The chair has a two position control switch that has only 2 wires going from it to the power supply for the motor. Obviously the micro switches are used to stop the motor when the chair reaches its limits. Are the diodes used in some way to signal if the chair is at the extended limit or the retracted limit therefore cutting one position of the control switch while allowing the other to work?
Thanks

Dan. Without seeing just how the seat is wired it would only be an assumption. My assumption would be that the diode is there to complete the circuit when the micro switch is in the open position to allow the circuit to be closed for the opposite seat function. Did you understand that or would you like another attempt at an explanation? LOL

In its current placement it cannot be any type of limit device. It would be more so for current flow in a specific direction when required.

This might help. The switches only seam to be motion limiter switches.

A snubber diode is almost always used on the coil side of a relay. Of course this is not a relay. Since this is a DC motor (I assume its DC) a snubber diode maybe possible but usually when its 1 motor that must function in 2 directions (forward and reverse) I not so sure that's what it would be for. But again, I would need to see a diagram.
