Do you really leave your Marquee plugged in all the time?

The Marquee was designed to be plugged in and left plugged in at all times. When it's plugged in, the LVPS fans are
going to run all the time. This doesn't work well in a setup like mine, where the theater is also a bedroom.

Do you leave yours plugged in at all times?

I'd be willing to leave mine plugged all the time if it were SILENT in standby. But it's not.

Does the memory battery last longer when you keep it plugged in, or does it make no difference?

Yes, all the time, even though it often goes weeks between use. I never liked that "feature" but, ohwell...

NO difference on the battery life, you can't charge those batteries.

Mine's been plugged in for about 4 years now. Haven't changed G2 levels or brightness/contrast.

I don't even leave my XG plugged in all the time, and when you turn it off it's OFF.

Ever had a power surge?....

I remove the power from mine everytme I stop watchng . (IR remote controlled on/off switch at outlet on ceiling) Takes several seconds for the unit to power down and the fans to turn off. No problems doing this for well over a year. This was discussed a while ago and Mike Parker noted the Marquees were designed for this (set pj to autopower off in oneof the service menus.

Also this way I can put the Marquee remote away semi-permanently

This one is also in a large spare bedroom - so the fan noise is just not an option for the guests.

I have no clue on what the circuits look like on these, but even with recharging taken out of the picture, it's possible that with PJ power on and supplying power to the unit in standby, the memory retention circuits may discharge the battery more slowly.

I don't worry about my theater equipment any more. I have a APC Smart UPS rack mounted in my theater rack. Everything associated with the theater (equipment wise) is plugged into it. It has bi-directional RS-232 serial control so I can monitor and control it from any touch panel in the house. I was lucky to find a pre-written Crestron module for it which allows me to monitor it's current state and battery condition. There is a pop-up icon on the touch screen when it takes over. It will take over from a power outtage or power spikes or drops at about 5% above or below normal. I've never tested it to see actually how long it would keep the theater running. My Crestron system monitors it. If the power goes out for more than 7 minutes, it triggers a press of the master theater power off button to safely shut down the system. I have not had any power related equipment failures since it was installed. I used to have them on a regular basis.
Most of the time the power only goes out for a couple of minutes. If you're in the theater, you will never know it happened.

This smart shut-down feature would be particularly usefull with digital projectors that require post purge at power off to keep from smoking the lamp and housing.

I don't. I also disconnect all the other HT equipment. imho just a waste of energy if all the stuff is running on standby all the time.

That's why I offer a premium grade fan noise mod. Problem solved.

My 8500 has been plugged in for nearly 6 years now. I like being able to press that one master off button on my harmony and leave the theater while everything shuts down, lights turn off, etc. But I don't bother unplugging the projector ever, unless I'm going to do some work on it, which has been rare.

it is truly silent. i never knew that marquees had the fans on all the time till i got here. just thought that he light on the back stayed on. during movies it's great because my projector sits in the middle of the room and the fans are quiet enough that i don't notice them on "chick flix".

I measured it with a Kill-a-Watt awhile back and I think it was around 25W. I can re-measure if you're interested.

That's less than 17 cents per day.

And if you're going to fret about how much the Marquee's use when 'off' you'd be shocked to tally the usage from all the vampires you have running. eg, phones, DVD players, TV, Cable/Sat boxes, AVR, ranges/stoves and anything with a wall wart to name a few.
It's quite a bit in a year and not green at all if you consider every household is packed with these little beaties sucking money out of your wallet and compounding already critical mass pollution. I have almost everything on power strips that I possibly can. The cable modem and internet phones of course have to have power but other than that it's all turned off. It drove the wife nuts in the beginning but she's bought into my "eccentric glitch" as she calls it. Laughing
