Hi,

I just got my Marquee 1½ weeks ago. It's ceiling mounted in my living room like this:

It is currently 106" away from my 90" wide screen, which is too near, according to this forumula:
Quote:
HD144 lens face distance from screen in inches = 1.144 X (measured screen width + 9.3 Inches)

However, I can see that the CRT's aren't completely filled as is. I would say I could move it forward about a foot to properly fill those CRT's. I already measured the lumens on screen to be 18% less by moving it backward by 12", so I would very much like to move it forward to get even more light on the screen!

The thing is, I would have to move my ceiling mount forward as well, as the PJ is now at the end of the rails.

Do you guys think that I would be able to get the lenses focused properly when moved forward by another foot, eg. 20% closer that the proper distance according to the formula?

Regards, Elwin

Hello

Hang a sheet in front of the screen and try to focus to it.

First off, i never use a formula for deciding Projector mounting location. it should depend on how much of the raster you use.

So, right now I would drop the PJ. Set it up on the floor and maximize the raster/image on the tube face, leaving about 10mm from the edges to allow for any
keystone you may need to use. Now position the PJ on the floor to fill the screen and center it there. this way you are using as much of the tube face possible.

Once you have it set up on the floor replicate the location to the ceiling, form my experience i had to go forward about a foot from the Hd8 lenses, but that can be different depending on image size on the screen.

Also with my HD145's if i remember correctly, its about 100 inches from the screen for a 80 inch screen.

hard to sell from the pic but the formual is for 90" wide viewable area left to right, not diagonal?

6mm on each side (1/4") is plenty IMHO Wink You might have a a little too much Keystone based on your pic Elwin, try and raise the screen a little or drop the PJ if you can.

Because your mounts are "homebrew" there is no formula for this. Just trail and error and see what works out best.

HUH!!!! Why would the fact that he made the mount have anything to do with the formula. When the manufacturer makes the suggestion of how far to away from the screen to mount the PJ they use a central point on the pj itself. The barco manual says to use the mounting on the bottom of the pj, my NEC says from the front of the green lens. So to say because he "homebrewed" his mount and any formula wont apply is not true.

Off course it is. Because the mounting space between lens and tubeface is unknown it's hard to tell which distance is right. And different lenses have a different throw.. The marquee is fitted with HD8 from factory not HD144

So I think it's time for you to press the edit button Wink
