i recently bought a barco 801 graphics projector- and i was told i needed this box to interface a pc with it.
so i also bought an extron rgb118 plus interface to work with it. Upon going to hook this unit up, i noticed the cable was not standard vga- it is a db-9 connector. do i just need a vga-db9 converter?

I think You can buy a normal vga->5 bnc cable and hook Your computer to bnc, you dont need that extron unless you want to use 2 ports for the projector. where are you located, i have one extra extron box and cables that came with a data 801s to me.

Get one of these cables and try 1024x768 directly from your PC.

http://www.amazon.com/HD-15-Video-Cable-Monitor-cable/dp/B001UJMGZC/ref=sr_1_25?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1263364259&sr=8-25&tag=curtpalmecrtp-20

Then get Powerstrip and set all you sync's to negative negative - - for other resolution like 1080i. Or take Tim up on his offer for one of the VGA HD15 to 9 pin Extron cables and run your PC to that then from the extron to your projector and set your Extron to force negative sync.

If you end up getting the cable from Tim you'll also need a cable to run from the PC to the Extron box:

DVI-I to VGA HD15 male

Or if your PC is good old HD15 VGA output VGA to VGA:

Whoops, meant to include the link: http://entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm

Yes it's video control software to set up custom resolutions.
