I took apart most of my 4500 yesterday and today except from removing the tubes, unplugging wires or dismantling the power supply to clean out all the dust before ceiling mounting it.

Looking at the heatsink on the neck boards I'm able to mount 40mm fans on each. It has been a while since I used the projector so I can't remember how hot they get and I'm wondering would these benefit from additional cooling? As well, I was planning on removing the remote holder and install 2-3 additional 80mm fans.

The side panels I plan to cut out the stamped grills with a 4" keyhole saw as the NMB stock fans are rather loud with the slightest resistance.

The last consideration I had was installing 2 extra fans on the front of the base unit to better cool the PSU. The printed on looking vents don't offer much cooling. Rolling Eyes

All the fans will be externally powered/controlled.

Any suggestions/comments, worth my time and money?

So, for shits and giggles I unplugged the 2 case fans while the projector was on and WOW are they loud. I thought there was something else creating a hum but nope, just the NBM Fans rated for 21cfm and 25dba. I'll be swapping them for these:

GELID Solutions GELID Silent 8 1600RPM 80MM Quiet Fan 20.72CFM 18DBA HDB 3PIN
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=34065&vpn=FN-SX08-16&manufacture=Gelid%20Solutions%20Ltd.

Most personal reviews on so called "Silent" fans state they are louder then expected, don't push enough air, can't keep the case as cool as stock fans, get loud over a short period of run time, etc. These seem to be perfect from spec's and reviews! Thumbs Up

Will going from NMB 0.13A to GELID 0.08A cause a problem?

For cooling the heatsinks on the neckboards should I let them run warm/hot or would cooling them prolong tube life?

I plan to mount a 40mm fan to each controlled by a Scythe Kaze Q 3.5IN Pure 4 Channel Fan Controller powered with a 120V to 12V converter.

I still plan to run 2 extra fans where the remote is located and possible 2 more infront. Since each channel is 12w each I can Y connected several fans off the 1.
