|
|
I'm setting a Marquee 9500 Ultra; under Geometry menu, going to top pincushion and bottom pincushion, I can't make any regulation; if I hit top pincushion, the bars for regulation are normally showed (top pin and top keystone), but changing values from 0 to 100 makes no difference; same with bottom pincushion...
The only way to have straight bottom and top lines is by green convergence.
Any idea?

Hello
You may have a faulty GEOM/FOCUS board, or an older type board without geometry circuits.

If you have a non ultra DPB you wont have certain functions also.

I've cleaned all board contacts (not the socketed chips as I have no chip pullers) with no results: I have no possibility to correct bottom and top pinchusion and keystone, other than by green convergence. All the other geom regulation works properly...
The focus board is labeled as: 03 270354 02P
The DPB is: 03 280335 03P
Meybe one of this 2 board (or both) are older types (non Ultra)?
Thanks for your answers

Check ICU7 (square chip) on the deflection processor board (on control module).
If your Marquee is a true Ultra, U7 would have to be version 5.5 or higher.

This is just quessing, since I'm not really familiar with 9500 Ultra, but I had exactly the same symptoms when I replaced boards with older revisions in my PJ. The older revision boards were missing some fly wires. You could check if on the DPB and on the VDM those wires are in place.

I also had this issue and the fly wire in one of my DPB board was missing. Make sure you have that fly wire.

The DPB looks like it is an Ultra board; the chip U7 is v. 5,5
and it has green fly wire:
This is a pic of VDM:
All the other geom corrections are OK; only I have no possibility to correct Top and Bottom pin

Ok, so the VDM does not have the flywire (+resistor) and the additional cap... What about the convergence board? does it have fly wires?
Maybe one of the 8/9500 Ultra owners around here can post a pic of their boards, but my guess would be, that the VDM is missing these additional parts...

here's a pic of the Ultra VDM , but I also had a customers Ultra boards board here with no top/bottm pin and it was the FGM. After I re-conditioned the board and did a small repair to the Focus section it I simply sent it to Curt for repair on the Geometry circuit.

I didn't think there was an ultra VDM. There are different versions of the VDM but not one that is specific to the ultra and required for the ultra. Yes,No?

Many thanks to everyone for your suggestions...
I have a working 8500 (non ultra) and so I was able to compare rear heatsink boards: they are the same, so I assume, rear heatsink boards in 9500 are non Ultra boards and that explain why i can't adjust top and bottom pin... am I correct?
If so, where could I find Ultra boards schematics to make changes needed?
Or do you think could be better first trying to swap focus board (in case is this one defective)?

I'm pretty sure all Marquee 8500/9500 have the ability to adjust top and bottom pin. Be they Ultra or not.
Let's see if others agree.

DAve, along with top and bottom pin they have top and bottom keystone on the same menu selection. I think the software change puts them together.
Karmat, make sure you also have an ultra FGM, NOT FCM. On the Ultra FGM Focus and Geometry Module the electronics cover the entire board, on the FCM Focus Control Module the back 1/3 of the board is blank, nothing there at all.

I think it is FGM:

Yes, this is an FGM.
I'd try soldering in the missing components on the VDM and then try it again.
Nashou has the schematics in his signature

I looked at schematics in Nashou's page
But I need something easier and with some pics : as put this resistor in this position, solder the fly wire from here to there...
I'm not skilled at board level... nor I have any skills in soldering, but a friend of mine has and he offered to help me if I can show him exactly what to do....
I hope someone has the right instructions
Thanks to all of you
