I am pretty sure i seen a SAB board with the MC3402 chip which is much less. I am at work now so have to look.
Steve and I were talking and He thinks he used the TLE2072 chip there. I have some at home and might try it. But i have to wait for his confirmation. Not sure what bandwidth requirements are needed for the astig adjustment but i don not think its a high bandwidth need, unless its dependent on the refresh rate your running,
EDIT: Ok just got home and the older boards have the same chip. Maybe Steve was mistaken, have to wait and see.

Any confirmation on a replacement for the EL2245CN? I'm not looking to hot-rod this board, simply looking to repair a SAB channel and the EL2245CN is no longer available? |
Never heard back from steve but doing some quick research I think this chip might work:

I actually think they might be way better, look at the voltage input and Current noise figures for the original and the replacement. The original was tested at 10khz and had more noise, usually if you raise the frequency noise also rises. the replacement chip is 10x lower noise figure at 100khz!!!! so that would suggest even much lower at 10khz.
I am interested to see the results.

Sorry Guy's, I have not been on the computer for the last couple of days.
I do use the TLE2074 in place of the MC34084's on a number of boards.
I don't replace the EL2245's, I looked at this, but never got past talking about it with Athanasios, too many other things on my workbench
Cheers
Steve

Steve | I ordered 2 last night and I'll let everyone know. I too am buried so don't expect any scoped pics , Just looking to get this board working quickly. Clipped a transistor down pushed over and it shorted to the clip, not hard to do after soldering for 6 hours+

Thats why those data sheets are so handy. It indicates they are not the same style.
Cant say I haven't made the same mistakes before also. I'm very cautious myself anymore.

Fly wire would work. Keep them short.
Check to make sure the pin-out is the same and if it is something like this can be found, search for msop to dip adapter.

That was where you accidentally bought the SOIC chips instead of DIP chips for the SAB. Did you ever buy those SOIC to DIP adaptors to test those out?

Athanasios | nope. IT was easier to just replace the amp. It didn't seem like the chip was the bad part anyway, not sure really what bolew on that board. One of the transistors got bent over during re-assembly and shorted against a heat-sink clip. Spent some time on it and then moved on to better things
