OK....this may sound like it doesn't make any sense but....the colors on the Runco 933 have more pop than the Barco 1208s/2. Also the skin colors look better on the Runco as well. But here is the strange part. The Barco is brighter. I know I'm new to this, but does this make any sense? Is this related to color filtering in the lenses?

The Runco has hd-145 lenses which are color filtered. The 1208 does not. That's why the runco seems a little nicer. you could get joust adapters and put the 145's on the barco and you would have s better projector.

Color filtering is something you don't miss until you have had it. I used no color filtered Barcos for years and it never bothered me. Now I have a Runco 1100 (Barco 1209s more or less) with color filtering, I could never go back.

They're shite.
They aren't filtered, they cause bigger halos, and they aren't as sharp.

Most, but not all folks say that about sharpness. Having never seen HD-144/5 in action on a well setup projector I don't know one way or the other. The HD120s on my Runco though are WAY sharper than the HD-8s. Also the 1208s/2 should have the higher resolution PT18s/P16 tubes. That may give it a leg up in the sharpness department. I think some of the softness attributed to HD8s might be related to the 180DMB/DVB tubes. I found even 720p a bit soft on 180DVBs in my Barco Data 808s (with about 4000 hours on the tubes) but there was a VERY significant increase in resolution when I went to P16s. I am not saying that HD8s are great but I do think the standard res tubes in the Marquees/Barcos are more of a limiting factor initially than the HD8s.

well hell.....sounds like I gave the old man the wrong projector if the Runco is both filtered in the lenses and the glycol is tinted. I guess I can tint my barco tubes and maybe find a set of 145's. I saw the directions on the glycol tinting....why not inject the dye without having to remove any glycol?

You don't need 144/145's AND tinted glycol.
One or the other is all that is needed.

The runco does not have both tinted glycol and color corrected lenses. It has the color corrected lenses.
I would just get a set of hd-145s and the joust adapters and call it good. You should be able to tell that the lenses are the colored one because they have colored labels on them.
