I have a ten year old Sony D50Q CRT projector. It has 5,500 hours of use, and I've never had any problems. The projector has not been calibrated since the initial setup.

I'm using the projector with an SVHS cable hooked to a FIOS digital "cable box." And, I have an HTPC and XBOX360 hooked to the projector with a 5BNC to VGA cable (1024x768). The SVHS connection looks fine, but the other night the projector suddenly developed a ghosting image when using the HTPC or XBOX360. Basically, the image looks VERY blurry. There is a noticeable ghost image. If I turn on ONLY the green color, there appears to be two images on the screen...the first image and a much lighter ghost image. This only happens with the green color.

I tried calibrating the projector to fix the issue. But, the cross-hatch pattern looks perfect. No ghosting at all. If I overlay the image from the HTPC on the screen, that HTPC image looks all blurry and messed-up. When I turned off the green color, everything looks perfect again.

So, I figured the green alignment must be off, even though the cross-hatch pattern was fine. I went into service mode, but regardless of what I calibrate, the ghost image can not be removed. I thought maybe the focus of the green lens might be off, but if that was the case, the signal from the SVHS cable would look blurry too, but it doesn't.

Just wondering If I'm missing something and if there is any explanation for the projector suddenly establishing this green ghost image in 5bnc mode. Is it possible, for instance, to be calibrating the wrong input setting, even though the HTPC screen was visible with the perfect crass-hatch pattern? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks and enjoy the weekend....Mike

This is usually a cable or source issue. Switch the green with the red cable on the unit, and see if the ghosting changes to the red tube.

Excellent recommendation!!! I did exactly what you said, and it worked. The green cable connection must not have been tight enough. Once I unplugged it, and then plugged it back in, everything worked great again. Thanks for your great advice and FAST response. I owe you!!!
