Do I have to use these focus rings, or is there a better way to get better flapping with a PG?

I'm going to answer the question that the title of the thread suggests.
NEC projectors are intended to be installed by factory trained installers who will follow factory instructions and can mount them perfectly per those instructions. If you mount a PG exactly as the factory suggests "EXACTLY" there is no need for further lens flapping. You will have perfect corner to corner focus. However, NEC does not subscibe to the "maximum raster usage" theory that most here preach.

I was wondering more along the lines of...has anyone engineered a way to do better flapping with the rings? I mean, there are screws with springs on them which will effect the angle of the lenses...so, has anyone experimented along these lines?
And also...NEC's rule!!

Well of course you can do your own "hack" scheimpfluge. Add springs to all screws, fix one corner then use the others to flap the lenses just like a Marquee. If you can do it on a 1270, which I've done, you should be able to do it as easily on an NEC....however...just putting the projector in the proper position will negate the need for this entirely...

I did it with Springs.
I even posted a picture of them up here last week - go and look.

Yeah, but few of us have the ideal screen/ceiling/floor/seating relationship that will land the projector in the one single "proper position". It's advantageous (for a variety of reasons) to just use a Scheimpflug mod.
