yes, you heard it here first, i will admit ignorance and admit having never done a tube swap before but also thinking, what can be so hard i didn't read up either, anyhow, all went well aside some one minor thing, i missed the 'push then twist' the anode cable to get it to come out of the HV transformer, and what would you know, i pulled the cable clean out of the little metal cap thing, anyhow, the question, how would one go about getting the little cap out, for the time being i have put the new tube in and everything back together and it is all held nicely in place (i have done some 1000 hour since..), but i am not happy knowing that it HV cable is not completely securely in place cheers

You buy them books, you send them to school, and they eat the erasers off of the pencils!!!!!!!!

hehe, the cap is actually still in the transformer, the with cap of the new tubes anode lead resting against it, so, no, but it didn't need re soldering (it was replaced due to a burn of some sort - still havn't worked out how it got there, i think a previous owner may have turned it on with the yokes plugged in)

Hey many brands of duck tape contain enough aluminum to actaully conduct small amounts of electricity...
don't get me started on DUCK tape... ( the proper name when it earned its title in WW2 patching holes in military "ducks") I am kinda a pro...

I'm sure you're a pro at *using* duck/duct tape, but not in the etymology of the term! See e.g. Wikipedia and World Wide Words. Both state that the origin of the term is unclear, and may arise from the "cotton duck" used to make early tape, or possibly because it shed water "like a duck." But nobody says anything about military ducks.

Take the HV splitter out and poke at it with a long thin screwdriver or chopstick. The two that I managed to snap off within the block did come out that way.
If not, pop off one of the 'spare' caps, and you should be able to use that connection. Worst case, I have spare HV splitters.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duct_tape
duct tape was originally developed during World War II in 1942 as a water resistant sealing tape for ammunition cases.[2][3] Permacel, then a division of Johnson & Johnson, used a rubber-based adhesive to help the tape resist water and a fabric backing to add strength. It was also used to repair military equipment quickly, including jeeps, firearms, and aircraft because of these properties.
And calling it "duct" tape these days is really a problem because it doesn't meet code for that application

I did the same thing to my G70. Previous projector was a Barco that you just pull out. I got the metal end out of the splitter with a screw driver like Curt said. I then cut a little off the end of the lead and was able to reattach the metal end piece. Never had another problem with it. Remember, push, rotate, pull.

in hind sight it seams odd to me i didn't have time to try remove the cap when i had the pj apart, yet i had enough time to swap a tube out, i guess it is only a 30min job on one of those pjs anyway (and i was using the dining table )
