|
|
I was swapping out Neck Boards between the Green and Blue tubes on my SONY G70 to determine if the Green CRT tube was faulty. (the Bias control would not function on the Green tube) In the process, a pin came off the Blue CRT tube that was critical to the Blue tube's performance.
I investigated using a Silver-based epoxy to "glue" the pin back. However, the technician I spoke with from the Silver Epoxy manufacturer advised it would not be strong enough, nor hold it under the temperature conditions of a CRT tube.
I then decided I had nothing to lose and decided to try and solder the broken pin back together. The pin had separated fairly deeply down into the hole of the plastic end and glass end of the tube.
The bottom-line is that the repair worked perfectly the first time!
I have attached an MSWord file with the Procedures as well as a Diagram (the details were too small to properly photograph).
Hopefully, none of you ever have to try this procedure but, if you do, here's how it worked.
God Bless, John

That's pretty impressive John.
Kal should add this to the procedures.

Nicely done
Just be very careful if you have to pull the neck board off again. I suspect that the solder may hold up better under compression than under tension But I suppose if the pin comes out again you can just resolder it again too.

Apparently, I'm the only one not seeing this attachment?

Hi Tim:
In the first posting of this subject, there is a "boxed area" with the heading: "CRT Pin Repair.doc"
At the bottom right-hand side of this boxed area you should be able to see a symbol of a paper clip with the word "Download" in blue font.
Click on the word "Download" and you should be able to retrieve the Procedures and Diagram.
It has been downloaded 102 times, thus far, so the download function is working.
God Bless, John.

John,
thanks a lot. I see it now (and was able to download the doc), but there was no trace of the box there when I initially posted. Honest!
I have no clue why that would be the case, but since it's working now, I guess it's a moot point.
