Hello,
We really need to setup a better backup system for our business computers to keep copies of important files, and ideally an entire disc image, or mirror from the PC on.
Here is our basic setup, and what I would like to be able to get out of it. We have one PC that is just for business work, it has maybe 60 gigabytes maximum of used hard disc space, and I wouldn't expect this to increase too much in the future as the only files are office type files, and similar that use little space. I have an iMac that I use for everyday work, I really don't have anything critical on the Mac that would need to be backed up. I also have my HTPC that has close to a TB of media files, along with a backup of the critical business files that is updated at best once a month. My brothers also have a computer that they play games on, there is nothing on this computer that would need to be backed up.
What I want to setup is some network accessible storage that I can use to do a backup, or mirror of the hard drive in the business computer to, have read and write access for my HTPC, and iMac so I can use it to share files between my two machines. I also want to keep all of my pictures, and music on this NAS so I have a backup copy outside of the HTPC, and so I can set it up so my little brothers have read only access so they can access the pictures, and listen to the music, but not be able to delete or alter the contents.
As far as hardware I have an Apple Airport Extreme that I believe I can plug an external hard drive into and setup as a shared space, I also have an extra PC (P4 2.8, 512mb, 100GB, PATA) that I could use to setup a box.
I'm not sure what the best way to go about this is? I want to have a TB of storage as a bare minimum, but don't think I would ever see a need for more than 2 unless I start ripping BD.
Suggestions? This project is being paid for by the boss, as it was pitched as a better backup system, with easier PC to PC sharing, so these pieces take top priority, I need to build something that will work well for backup, and be dead simple reliable, it needs to just work. Budget is hopefully under $250.

No, sorry, I should have explained.
Our business is a farm, which is also our home, we need to have a better backup system for the computer that is used for farm business, records, taxes, and other fun things.

get an old pc..they are cheap.
get naslite.
it is also cheap
google it...made by serverelements. Been using it for years and for htpc as well
