The Box Click the URL is you need to see the plot, because SPOILERS COMING!!!!!!

Ok, so the premise is a couple in difficult financial times (think recession) are gifted a box. Inside the box is a big red button. No, this isn't a Staples Easy button, but if they hit the button they get US$1 Million. The consequence of this button's usage is that someone ... that they do not know ... will die.

Ok, enter WanMan into this scenario. New Plot is an intervention group shows up at Wan's house to get him to stop hitting the f-ing reb button. He's not just hitting it, he's playing speed metal with it. Mr. Green

Ok, so each time I whack the doodle I get US$1 Million, and someone I do not know dies. I do not know a lot of people and I am doing my part in saving the Earth by reducing the population and in return getting very, very wealthy.

So, the question is, would you hit the button, and if so would you hit the button more than once!?! Evil or Very Mad

NO

The fact that anyone would choose to have someone innocent that they don't know killed to make $1M is what's wrong with the world today.

I can only hope that someone who voted yes will be the first person to be killed.

Kal

How do you know they're innocent? Might be a terrorist, child molester, wife beater, or Wall Street thief.

86 now. Two voted. One was courageous to offer a verbal response.

Who said anything about knowing if they're innocent? Your original post didn't say anything about that, just that it's one person somewhere that you don't know, so you have no idea. It could be the Pope, or it could be someone on death row.

So you would seriously pocket $1M if someone offered it to you on the condition that one random person in the world would die because of it? Just my opinion but I find that sort of "out of sight out of mind" mentality completely morally reprehensible. The sort of "I can have anything as long as I take it from others" mentality.

You mentioned "Wall Street Thief" and frankly I don't see the difference between doing this $1M button press and what they do sometimes.

So why not just steal like they would? People typically do that from people you don't know so what's the difference other than the fact that the victim lives? Oh, I know why: Because the person stealing would actually have to do it themselves and "live with the consequences". For some odd reason the person pressing the buttong to the get the $1M doesn't think there's any consequences. Yeah right.

Very sad if you ask me.

Kal

I was the one who voted yes. My reasoning is as follows;

If I don't need the money I could use it to "save" many lives, either through paying for required medical procedures for the less fortunate or by feeding starving people that would die without the funding. Many lives saved for the cost of one lost. The random person who dies has no more choice about it than the ones who may have died without the funding from the money.

If I was in one of the situations described above where I needed the money to survive or to fund a procedure to save myself or my family I would hit the button. This may be somewhat selfish but think about what you would do if your child was going to die if they didn't get a medical procedure that you couldn't afford. Would you push the button to save their life?

Chris.

Please re-read your original response to me. You brought innocence into this discussion, not me. Your comment, "The fact that anyone would choose to have someone innocent that they don't know killed ..." acts as if the non-innocent were safe. Instead, I am rolling the dice, 50/50 chance.

And you gotta love how Chris rationalized his Yes. Kudos!

Just for the guilt, yes i could end up killing an axe murderer but i could also end up killing a child who would grow up to cure cancer so i would have to say no. Not for 1 million dollars, i am in the Uk and thats not a lot of £s really not for a life!

This poll is no different than taking a Psych Exam for some jobs. I remember one question that asked "Would you rather shoot your father, or push your mother down a flight of stairs?"

Yeah, crazy. Still, I am surprised at how many folks lacked the courage to vote in this poll. Bunch of chickens.
