I just had the hard drive in my 2005 Shuttle PC pack it in.

Who makes the best ones right now?

These Samsungs run cool, don't use a lot of power and are dirt cheap/GB. If you put 2 in your cart and the price drops to $99.99 each...Not bad for 3GB of storage. They are just 5400 RPM but I really don't see a speed issue with them...I've already got one full of MKV's ripping my Blu-rays to my server. I would stay away from Seagate.

I only have room for 1 it's a tiny PC that runs really hot.

Thanks for the link but I can't buy from newegg. I'll get it locally. I wonder if a 2.5" drive would run cooler?

SATA or IDE?...If IDE you will need an adapter if the Motherboard is a full size 40 pin cable ribbon, the power connection is different too on a 2.5" IDE drive.

I'd stay away from Samsung, Memory Express stopped selling them because of constant problems, I have the 1GB unit and it was making strange noises one night when I was watching a movie from it, I use it for movies off my sat., so I went and bought WD black and backed up all the movies.

We've gone through this like a hundred times. Everyone has a horor story about every MFR.

I am partial to Hitachi since they are pretty reliable and very cheap.

I like Western Digital for their warranty.

Seagate 1.5tb drives got a bad rap but I think it is fixed now.

I think Seagate is decent. I've had a few bad drives, but have also had them from most any manufacturer.

The warranty is pretty good, five years if I remember, and they are good about honoring the RMA service without much messing around.

Western Digital is the only brand I'd touch.

Green versions for less power and chill, but you're getting raped in performance.

Black for the best performance, but more power (and noise).

1TB Black- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284&cm_re=western_digital_1tb-_-22-136-284-_-Product

1TB Green- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136317&cm_re=western_digital_1tb-_-22-136-317-_-Product

I've already seen you say you couldn't newegg it, but it's just so you know what you're getting.

The Seagate replacement drives that with the corrected firmware seem to be holding nicely. I bought them just before last Xmas. Two are in DirecTV HD DVR external cases, and the other two are in a RAID mirror configuration PC. The one's in the DirecTV setup have been running continuously since implementation.
