HDMI carries picture and audio. Does anyone out there know in what form the audio is carried. A salesman told me that 6 of the conductors were audio ; if that is so it would be worthwhile breaking out the individual channels.
It makes more sense that the audio is still digital at this point.I'd like to know.
Thanks

Lets just say that the salesman needs to find another job, or just keep his mouth shut.

The audio, and video for that matter is digital, and thats all she wrote... Smile

Yes and it's all HDCP encoded so you need a piece of equipment to break it out for the 5.1 or 7.1 sound. It's usually just cheaper to but a receiver that can handle HDMI.

Is the 2 in 1 audio output from a Fury 2 HDCP?
My preamp has 3 digital inputs (orange RCA) Can I connect the audio out from the Fury 2 to my preamp through one of these? If so, problem solved and time to part with some more hard earned.
What does HDCP stand for?

The digital output of the HDFury2 is optical your preamp is coaxial

HDCP = High Definition Copy protection = the most useless thing ever invented.

The preamp also has an optical in. It's a McIntosh MX 134. I know it's slightly outdated but my original plan was to connect a Blue Ray player directly to my projector to minimize the number of connections. In audio this is just good practice if you care about sound so it made sense to do the same thing with the picture. I started doing some homework on projectors and ran across this website. As a community you convinced me to check out CRT projectors. This would be a good time to mention that the same salesman insisted that my projector couldn't possibly handle Blue Ray because it was built before Blue Ray came along. I mentioned that the resolution of the projector is 2500 by 2000 but he repeated his statement. Credibility is so important in sales; this fellow doesn't seem to appreciate that.

Ohh that's too funny!

What store was this salesman from?

Just bypass the HDFury2's audio altogether and run an optical cable direct to you McIntosh MX134.

Ahhh the Sony boys at G & G. That's odd though. I've been there many times. They usually know their stuff.

Chances are he is new. G and G was highly recommended to me by Sony's head office ( I work for a contractor in their building). Everybody screws up, more so starting out. As a buyer it's my place to understand what I'm buying and question any source that doesn't make sense until it does make sense. Fortunately we have forums with people willing to share what they know.
Thanks
