Panasonic HDC-SD100 SD media 1080p camcorder.
Also the Sanyo VPC-HD 2000
Anyone got one of these? If so what do you think?

I would recommend the Canon HF100 if you can find one. Great camcorder and should be pretty cheap <$450 if you can find it.
I think the Sanyo's don't have image stabilization.
I guy I know from work who is in India now ended up getting the traditional form factor Sanyo that does 1080p/60 and has been pretty happy with it.
Check this comparison out...

The Sanyo seems smaller and might be a bit more handy to carry around.
I used to be into the Panasonics but it seems like they are just run of the mill and nothing special now. I think Sony and Canon have the quality HD market handled and Sanyo comes in with lots of features for the money type of thing.

Thanks, I did check out the Panasonic a bit more. It seems they have a retarded design that requires you to power of the camera, remove the battery, to get access to the USB & HDMI ports. So if you want to show it off you have to have the AC adaptor with you. Stupid! You can however get to the Component ports but that doesn't help if you just want to transfer a bit of footage while using the battery.
It does however have a front ring that's multi use including the all important manual focus AND 3Cmos sensor's. Although according to the reviews I read the low light quality of this camera is grainy. Then again so has every other camera I've tried.
Includes a mic input, headphone output and a Leica lens

The Canon HF100 look's interesting.
One cmos.
Wow it takes an 8GB card for a 1 hour program. Ok those cards are only $20. Not too bad. I don't see the manual controls.
The reviews are saying importing video from the canon to a PC is a bit of a PITA. Oh if you shoot in 24p it does a 3:2 pull down and records it as 60i. That's retarded!
_________________________________________________________________________
The Sanyo VPC-HD 2000 does look like a good value. 8mp stills, 1080p 30, 60i and 60p. Too bad no 24fps setting though.
External mic jack wrong size However it looks like a good overall single cmos camcorder

Another Panasonic, dual SD cards: Panasonic HDC-TM300 Twin Media HD Camcorder
Why is it no matter what I want to buy I can never get every feature in one package?

Transferring from Canon HF100 is no more difficult than any AVCHD cam. Pull the card...open Picasa3...import.
If you use Canon's software you need to transport the entire "Stream" and it is a bit of the PITA but that is what you get with the AVCHD format.

Yes that's a good analogy.

Here's a cool one: It does 1080i on HDD, SD card SD on mini DVD's and HD onto mini Bluray disks all in one package. I like it. Hmmmm

Speaking in terms of picture quality not reliability. I like Hitachi products in general just not the picture quality.

I don't like the idea of optical recording media - especially BD - in a portable recording device. Think of what the recording structure must look like... stop/start/stop/start/stop/start... Then, there's dust... Vibration... Noise... No, thanks.
My order of preference for recording media in a portable video device would be:
1. Magnetic tape/Flash media (tie - both have advantages and disadvantages)
2. HDD
3. Optical (distant third)
Optical disc in a video camera reminds of Sony's stupid floppy disc cameras. Just seems to be a misapplication of a recording medium.

Good point SC. I have read that a single corrupt file/clip on the disc has the potential to take out the entire disc. No thanks.
Just buy a flash camcorder and then a cheap BR burner if you must have your recordings on BR.

I just like the fact I can carry that one camera. Back the HDD up to the SD card then make a DVD or BR for friends. I'm seriously considering this for my next vacation. Hmmmm.
I also like the Sanyo VPC-HD 2000 BUT you can not buy it in North America yet.
I'm also considering a Sanyo Xacti VPC-CA9 720p water proof to 5 feet. Like my 1994 Hitachi Hi8 was.

Yeah I know it's 720p only but my current water proof one was only 480i but it was so much fun!
I'd love to see some samples from that Sanyo

I'm about 90% sold on the Hitachi.
I think I need to give myself a birthday present. I have a habit of choosing cameras and film that I just love. It's like I know me ;o)
On the other hand I'd love to have another water proof camera. Maybe I'll buy 2

I'm sure you will probably be fine with the Hitachi...but don't say we didn't warn you.

Do you have any comparisons that say the Hitachi is lesser than a JVC, Sony or Panasonic? Just wondering where you got this idea?

I almost pulled the trigger on the Hitachi DZ-BD70 HDD/SDC/BR/DVD camcorder.
Then I remembered you said the video quality sucks. Hmmmm I need to see a sample of the video from one of these.
