Am I the only one out there who feels good when I sit under a crt projector? When I push the on button, the sound of the fans coming on, that little instantaneous humm of the boards warming up, and then the tubes lighting up in all of their glory. It's been this way for years, and I still stay awake some nights thinking about the crt. Always wanting to get the better image, even though it's great as it is. The feeling I get when I watch material, being mentally transported to another place for that 1 or 2 hrs . To me, nothing is better than the crt. No digital ( I have viewed several that have left me with no impressions, like walking away from a bad movie, totally forgetable) I was disappointed last week went I went to the movie theater to see that the movie was projected from a digital. Really sh*tty image. I won't be going back to the movie theater for awhile, the crt is so much better.
So, back to the crt, that beautiful, large beast sitting above our heads, humming and purring as she projects that wonderful image onto the screen. Am I just wacked or are there others out there that feel this way.

Crt, you sound so fine,
I want to make you mine.
You make me happy when you are on,
I'll be sad when you are gone.
Please stay with me as long as you can,
I'll take care of you like a good man.
Keep projecting those beautiful scenes,
I'll keep you clean by all means.
Crt, you are the best,
LCD, DLP,and all the rest.....

Personally I'm a bit wary of sitting under mine incase its homemade housing detaches from the ceiling joists.

Metafos you articulated the way we all feel perfectly(except for the geeky lyrics Wink ) I too can not get immersed into the movie while watching a digital the magical way the CRT can. Maybe its like Niagara Falls emitting positive ions into the air that gives us that aura of wonderment and awe.

I admit it. I too enjoy the hum of the crt pj and the sparking sound when it powers on. I went on a 4 day camping trip and thought about my projector many times. Smile I feel dirty.

Nothing gets to me like the sight and sound of a great live concert in 1080 on a crt. Digitals are pure sh*t when it comes to human closeups and tricky lighting.

Just for the record waterfalls create negative ions. The kind that make you feel good. Digitals must create lots of positive ions... Wink

I think it's the adrenaline rush of not knowing if the projector will fall on your head at any given moment.

I just fired up my G70 to work on my setup after about month. And I have to admit the hum of the fans brought me to a place of serene calmness, all was right with the world. I was working on my projector again like I was supposed to.
However, I have always thought it would be the height of irony to be killed by my "TV" falling on top of me. Make sure those bolts are tight!

Uh...

O.K. Guys,

Admit it, we love tweaking the f....n thing constantly, it's part of our internal crt' ish behaviour. The humming of the fans is the added bonus, knowing it's alive as we do it. Whether the ions be positive or negative, I think you guys are missing the point...... it still makes us feel damn good when we're sitting under or in close proximity to it. I'm not sure if it's just a phase, or as my mom said when I was obsessed with human parasitic infections..." You'll see, It'll pass ".

Negative ion generator, hey I have one sitting under my monitor at work and it's on all day. Whether it does any good is another thing.

I tend to ask alot of purity questions and adjust settings merely to get a better understanding of the CRTs capabilities and identifying any potential /underlining problems.

Powering up is like sudden death, if it doesn't come on I don't have the capabilities/funds for repair. The fans humming / projected image are therapeutic after this point.

In a strange way my CRT's quirky nature, the labour of love and irregularities give it an identity and character.

I want to devise a little program /project for its processing unit to synchronised R G B light illumination to the sound emitted from the alien ship in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

I enjoy it... though my first hanging project did have me worried for the first couple months (and I slept under the thing). I'm still here though, so obviously I did something right when I hung it.

I was the same as yourself when first hung mine. I too sleep on the sofa under its housing. If it fell I'd wake up dead. O_o?

Wonder if anyone has ever died from a falling projector, hmm :-/

There is nothing like CRT for home theatre. No more need be said.
