so i just got around looking at iron man, and spotted a goof that isn't listed in the usual places, maybe i'm confused

possible spoilers for those who have been in a cave and don't know the basic movie details...

so Stark needs this electromagnet to keep shrapnel out of his heart. fine.
and he has a small reactor to power the electromagnet. fine.
and he needs to replace it. fine.

he has Pepper reach in, grab a wire and pull it out and he says "make sure when you pull it out you don't pull out the magnet" but she pulls it out with the electromagnet attached. while going into cardiac arrest, he says "i wasn't expecting that" and "don't put it back in" so she puts the electromagnet onto a tray.

she then plugs in the new reactor and all is good again.

so - doesn't he need that electromagnet? isn't this a bit of a mistake in the movie? or did i misunderstand?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckPBVRnQ5fs at about 44 seconds.

Dude, if you are going to critique movies at this level, you have alot of writing ahead of you! I've yet to see an action movie that doesn't have stupidity at this level.

The new device is much more sophisticated than the first primitive one he made in the cave. Because we're not as intelligent as him (of course he's a genius), we can't possibly perceive how the new one works. Therefore your logic is extremely flawed and the movie is correct. Smile

Yes, I have the same problem as you during most movies, but, they're just movies. So I don't stew on them much.

So, you were able to get past the fact that he survives a crash and the only thing that happens is the suit falls apart.

But this bothers you?

yep Smile

i don't care if a movie creates it's own universe. so yes superman can fly, buffy slays vampires, and spock has copper based blood. but stick to the universe. Star Trek (even TOS) had it's bible with which writers had to maintain consistency.

so if there is some dude that is so smart he can create a reactor to power an electromagnet to keep him alive. cool. but don't say "don't take the electromagnet out" and then toss it to one side and forget about it.

as for the suit. you see, to protect him from chafing, he lined it with the finest afghan goat wool which as a side benefit provided cushioning during impact. chafing makes for an irritable ironman. nobody likes an irritable ironman.
