Hello all! I just read the instructions on making a homemade screen(in particular the painting part). How long will the BEHR paint last before it starts to turn an off-white color? All my tries at painted screens have turned yellowish after a couple of months Confused

The yellow showed up no matter what light hit the screen. I especially noticed it when I would first power on my projector(white screen) or the white screens within the test screens. I like the idea of a washable screen though, since the fabric I have is impossible to clean without spotting..

What painting instructions?

I wouldnt use Behr paints. They are cheap and dont last. I only use Benjamin moore.

Most of the pro's i know reccomend it.

My 5 year old painted Behr screen is as lily white as the day I made it.

No, true... I use Pratt & Lambert quite a lot. Very good paint. Best paint I ever used is premium stuff called C2: www.c2color.com . Amazing stuff.

But who cares about durability on a screen - it gets (or should get) zero contact.

Behr ultra pure white was picked many years ago not because someone thought Behr made good paint, but because their white paint actually happened to be whiter then all others (or at least that's how the story goes).

You can bet that the rabid HT'ers that did the testing weren't picking Behr to save $5/pint. Smile

Were you using an Alkyd paint or acrylic?

The only wa an acrylic paint would yellow is if it was a wood substrate and was not sealed properly.
If you use a white alkyd paint it will start to yellow in the absence of U.V.

Actually,by the sounds of it, I probably should be ashamed of the paint I used... Last one I tried was latex based, with a teflon additive in case the kids did touch it Confused(My HT is in my livingroom) . It was the brightest white I found at the time, though.
