Hi everybody!
I switched on the old 1271 the other day and was disappointed to find it had gone faulty since I had last had time to fire her up. I can describe the fault as the raster area (normally in widescreen) 'popping' (no sound just sudden) into a 4:3 area and then slowly fading (10-15 seconds) until there was zero light output. The fans were still whirring away but no picture. Happened a few times so I gave up rather than make anything worse.
Does this ring any bells with anyone? What kind of faulty board would cause a problem like this? Anything useful I can do with limited tools to help diagnose the problem further?
I must admit I am kinda fond of the old girl and would like to get her running again. I do my day to day watching on a 1080p samsung 686le which is certainly sharper but there's something about the deep blacks, rich colours, smooth image and motion on a CRT that still can't be beat.
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Rob

Check the tube filaments. Sounds like a bad connection from their power supply to the tubes, esp if it fades out, and doesn't shut down.

Thanks Curt,
I thought it might be a bad connection or some cracked solder because on the odd chance you can get the machine working for 10 minutes if you give the back of the machine a little poke it will kick the fault into gear.
I know you don't really bother with the 7inch ES machines any more Curt but could you post up a picture and perhaps circle the bit I should have a look at because I'm not sure at the moment.
Thanks again for the advice!
Rob

I've never had tube filament problems, so I'm at a bit of a loss. The filaments are close to the CRT sockets in the necks of the tubes, and with the lights off should glow a dull orange. No filament glow = no picture. I don't know off the top of my head how the filament voltage is routed, but let me know if they are off, and I can check the manual.

Thanks for the reply Curt!,
I'll be able to check within the next couple of days and see if I get you an error code too.
Cheers!
