Hello.

I'm working on a broken 1292 by more than 1 year (I can work on it very rarely).
The prj came from a pub. I've swap the green tube that was broken (HV discharge inside the tube Shocked and the phosphors burned in various point).

The prj powers on correctly when I get it, but after few tentative to isolate the green tube problem (HV cable disconnected), it stop powering on correctly and shows the "08" error.

Now the VPR is assembled and the new green tube is on it.
At the power-on, all seems to be ok, but after few seconds, the power go down with the same "08" error.

I've searched over the forum and over the web for this kind of problem. I find that the most "responsible" for this problem is the E board, right?

I've tried to clean it (there was a lot of dust over the board and the components) with a dry electrical contact cleaner, but the problem is still present.

I've find an E board on ebay for 115$ plus shipping. I wanted to try to substitute my E board with a "new" one.
Do you think is a good idea?

Where I can try to investigate the problem?

Thank you very much for your help.

Bye,
Edoardo.

08 is a vertical board error, so the first board to try would be the E board.

The 1292 was a pretty reliable set, of all of the older sets out there, I've worked on only about 5 of them. I'm chasing a problem right now with an H fail, and I've put 4 hours into it already. I don't know that anyone will be able to do a better diagnosis on the set, and the problem won't be dust or dirt buildup.

Try the E board and if that doesn't work, then post here again.

Cheers!
Curt

Hi Curt.

Thanks for your reply.
I'l try to substitute the E board as suggested. Did you have one spare to sell? Very Happy

Here is the video of the problem at power-on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_rnWTVCvl8

I do, but on an exchange basis only, as it's my only spare, so you'd have to send me yours back when you get mine.

Cheers!

Many thanks for your offer, Curt, but I've prefered to buy new boards and work on it as slowly as possible ( Mr. Green Laughing )

I've ordered both E and DC boards from an eBay seller (150$ both plus shippment costs).

I'll update this topic when I've tested the vpr with the new boards Smile

Yep they have lots of stuff and are fairly good guys, if the boards don't work just let them know and they should take care of you.

The point was that he said he preferred new boards. And Athan, your post is promoting another parts seller on here. Maybe you want to edit your post.... Smile

Or I'll have to call in SC....... Laughing (just kidding of course).

I have the boards! Smile

Worked on my prj for 2 hours.

First, I've swapped only the E board, but the 08 error still persist.
Then I've swapped the DC board also, the prj now is powering on without any error codes.

After few powerup tests, I've re-attached the HT connectors of the three tubes and powered up.

Unfortunately it seems to have another problem Sad

Only the red tube lights up. The other tubes makes some very little flash on the bottom side on the green and some little fullscreen flash on the blue, during power up.

This flash appear only during the first seconds.
After few seconds, no video output and no AKG line on blue and green.

I've made a video. Waiting for youtube approval.

What do you suggest?

Thank you very much.

I have no problems with people posting here, getting my advice, and buying the suggested parts elsewhere.

Of course, my ongoing tech support at that point becomes zero. Smile

Curt, you are right.

I've already purchased many things from you with some friends in the past and I've always been very well.

The only reason why this time I bought the cards on ebay is that, otherwise, I would have to return mine to you, and I want to have a "backup" board at home in case of other problem on some component.
