I see more red on the right of my screen and blue on the left. Is this normal with crt projectors because of the placement of the tubes?

I don't think this is normal, even if it does happen due to tube placement I doubt it would be obvious. On my G70 I can correct for this in the uniformity menu.

On higher gain screens it'll be more noticeable. Think of it like this: a 1.0 gain screen is completely matte, and you'll see no hotspotting. A mirror is very, very high gain, with very very bad hotspotting! And the hotspot for each tube is in a slightly different place - obviously; you're looking at the reflection of the PJ.

Well, you're ALWAYS looking at the 'reflection' of the light the PJ is throwing. The degree and 'spot tightness' of hotspotting is determined by the gain and shine of the screen, and the hotspot for each tube is obviously in a different position. So, it all manifests as color shift. Color shift and hotspotting are two sides of the same coin.

Throw a white cotton cloth over the screen surface. If the problem goes away, you have a high gain/wrong screen material installed.

If by chance its not the screen then I could be real. Contrast modulation is designed to deal with just this phenomenon. Is the image your looking at also brighter in the middle??

Its probably the screen though.

It was apparent on my clarion shadowbox m1300 screen. I've since switched screens to 1.0 gain screen and I still see it. I'll try the sheet thing tonight, and see what I see. The image isn't really brighter in the middle, just not as red, or blue.

What is this contrast modulation?

Don't feel bad, i have the same problem, and it's definitely not from too high of gain on the screen. Been to busy to mess around and try to fix it.

Contrast modulation allows you to actually adjust contrast (light output) in different zones on the tubes. It's standard on a MArquee and a few other models, but optional or just not available on most sets especially the 7 inch ES focus I think? What projector are you running?

Yeah, this is just a bedroom 7" es ecp. I can live with it, just thought maybe there was something I hadn't done right when I set it up.
