I'm looking for this user manual. The unit I have was made in '93 and I got it free about 10 years ago. I'm just now pulling it out of the attic and trying to hook it up(yeah, I know, rush, rush, rush).

I looked on the curtpalme.com website and there is a manual for the Zenith 895/900, but these units look completely different from mine(much better actually). The problem I'm having right now is the picture is inverted, meaning I have to reflect it in a mirror in order to read the text. I have been flipping through the menus and I can't find any setting to flip it. BTW, is this unit any good? I noticed there is almost no information about it online. Doesn't bode well. Smile

Thanks!

THe 890 is similar to the PRO 851 that also has manuals on the site. You're right, the 900/895 replaced the 890 and was completely different, but go through the 851 manual, and most of what you need to know is there.

It was a great unit in its time, I sold 100s of them to sports bars, but it's video only/480i, so HD let alone 1080p is not possible with that set. If the tubes are good, play with it, learn to love CRT, and upgrade down the road.

Cheers!

Thanks a million!!! Exactly what I needed. You just save me a 4 hour round trip to a facility where my wife can use a projector to make video presentation for school. They really don't make things like they used to. I can't believe this thing is 16 years old and it still works fine. It's a little blurry, but I don't have a remote and couldn't access the factory service menu so I really can't expect much at this point. I googled PV890X remote and got lots of hits. I guess any remote that is compatible with the PV890x will work?

Thanks again!

For anyone searching the forum who shares my problem (and my ignorance of CRT projectors):
1. Get the above mentioned manual.

2. Determine your desired projector configuration (p.17/d.19)

3. Locate the Convergence and Horizontal Sweep modules in the diagram(p.16/d.18)

4. Open the box. (p.15/d.16)

5. Locate your desired projector configuration in the chart on p.20/d.25 and configure the jumpers accordingly. (make sure the box and modules are unpowered before doing this) Note that the H. Sweep module is in the side of the chassis and you will probably need to remove it at least partially to get to the 8Bx jumpers. 7P6 on the Convergence module doesn't have the floor/ceiling labels on the board like the rest of the jumpers do. I made the(evidently accurate) assumption that it used the same positioning as the rest. (they are all the same)

6. Follow the instructions on p.20 to setup the projector. (which I unfortunately couldn't do)

you should be able to use any programmable remote on that. It uses a basic Zenith code. Just try the different codes until the projector responds. Then, IIRC its 0987 enter for the service menu.... Smile

Is there any definitive method of determining how much this projector is worth? I'm looking to get rid of it. I looked at this site and, while the model I have is a PV890X, it looks more like the 851 from the outside. I simply don't know enough about them to be able evaluate. It works, has several scratches on the chassis, and is missing the front cover (at least as of right now).

It's an 851 with a tuner in it. Since it can't do HD, it's not worth anything. The only thing I've sold this year is one HV power supply for $50. Over Christmas I'm throwing almost everything else for the 851/890 out. Want some parts? Smile
