I have the suck job of the universe but no choice I have to pull the motherboard from my G70 I just got.

Even Curt says he hasn't done it. But he'll do his if I'll do mine.

I am accepting procedure tips, safety tips, comforting words, cheering from the grandstands.
Anything you can think of.

Here's stuff that would be helpful.
1. Telling me what you would take out first and things I don't need to take out at all.
2. Safety tips both for what to avoid to keep from hurting myself or the projector in the process.
3. A story from someone who has done it before or got close to it. "You can do it" stuff.
4. If someone knows a way I can expose the back of the board without removing it that would be
awesome. I think its like asking for a way to draw Mickey Mouse from above. It can't be done.
5. It would be very comforting to know I don't have to decouple the tubes from the fluid to remove them.
I read its easier to remove the tubes from this unit than most others. I have only removed tubes from a 1270.

I guess that's all I can think of.
Thanks everybody. I'm starting in about two hours.
Its really like saving my baby. I don't know anything about it yet. But I love it and if I don't do this it is
going to be dead forever. Some things are forced upon us.

I had to pull all of the rear boards out of my G70 for a fan mod, if I find some pictures I took that may help you I'll post them.

My little bit of advice would be to take many pictures, and do drawings to show how it fits back together so it is easy to reassamble.

Good luck!

Thanks. That's very wise. I'll grab my roommates camera. He's a mechanic and does this a lot himself when taking apart cars. Good advice.

dude, just get a new chassis and swap your boards and tubes over. I have 3 here, one still has the PA board in it. with all the parts removed it can probably go fedex ground.

Dear Draganm,
That sounds like a great idea but do any of these chassis have a motherboard in them? Otherwise it wouldn't make much sense because I'd still have to get a motherboard, install it in the new chassis and would just be adding quite a bit of expense to the job for the sake of an nice systematic swap. But I am attracted to the idea of building as I am taking apart
instead of putting things on a shelf and trying to remember what goes where.

I like your thinking. It sounds like a win/win scenario. But on furthur consideration for it to be worthwhile it would have to be a chassis with a motherboard and all the back boards and the PA board. Right now all I have to do is take everything off the motherboard and put it back. With a bare chassis I have to take apart my whole projector. Sounds like more work than I have now, don't you think?

I haven't started yet. I decided to get a good night's sleep before embarking.

well I guess the only stupid question is the one you forget to ask right? Laughing Yes, they all have motherboards since this is the only time I have ever read of anyone needing a MB. The topic has actually never come up before and your seller was the only one to ever dump glycol into a G70 chassis except for one guy in CA with a 1292.
the chassis I have has the PA,the power boards, and focus board. The YA-YB, DC, E, and B are sold. You can have the chassis for cost of shipping +$25. but i'm guessing fed ex ground can be pricey depending on size and weight. You'll have to figure it out, my zip is 80601.
100 pounds to LA for example is showing as $70.

Lolz. How mean you marquee owners are! Exclamation Smile
I got this advice before the purchase and of course wish I took it now.
I came close at one point. A guy within a few miles of me had one
but it was like an 8500 which Curt listed as an intermediate. The G70 was
high in the advanced ranking and I never had a day of trouble with my two
1200 series Sony projectors. This has brand new tubes...100 hours and was cheaper.
It would have been perfect but I made him show me the tubes and in doing
so he loosened the wrong screw and released some glycol into the unit.

He didn't want to sell it after screwing up. But knowing it had perfect tubes I
offered him 800. When I got it filled and cleaned, it was running perfect for
two hours before it shorted. And here we are. Pulling the motherboard will make
a good story to tell my decendants.

Da ya think? Very Happy
Wonderful guy though with a good conscience. He was actually a home theater systems install salesman and I guess his boss gave it to him. He recently bought a $7000 Runco DLP at a company discount which I guess was his dream projector.
He thought he was supposed to look for "radio tubes" which is why he unloosed more screws.
I told him to describe the brown spots on the tubes because I was under the impression it had 3000 hours.
He said they looked pure white. And as we talked he said it had only been used a hundred hours.
I still expected the worst but sure enough the tubes are white as can be. Came with remote and ceiling bracket
too. And It only cost $146 dollars to get it from Utah to California in 12 hours.

I'm paying for it now though so the no free lunches rule still applies.

All,

Boards, card cages, tubes. The only thing that stays is the HV block/splitter. Clear a large space for all the pices.

Good Luck.
