OK, it wasn't technically beta (thought there were plenty of beta releases along the way), but it's been a <1.0 software package for years and years; meaning the software was incomplete, missing major features, or not reliable enough for a 1.0 designation. In that way, this release is a big milestone for VLC.

yet VLC has always been twice as stable as PowerDVD and all of the other DVD/video players that I've used

Reminds me of a linear algebra class I took at UF. The first half of the semester was covering chapter 0. And this from a book that th professor claimed was noted as the worse LA book out there.

OK, I tried it. The first thing I notice is the scaler sucks compared to WMP or Media Player Classic. I tried all the different deinterlace settings and the various video effects but scaled-up full-screen (1680x1050) images look blocky and coarse compared to the same media in WMP and MPC. Am I missing something?

I like it, it's the only player so far that has played all of my BD=>MKV files without complaint or problem.

Also downloaded the new KMplayer and it seems equally excellent Thumbs Up
