|
|
Hello I'm hoping somebody can help.
After years and years of working with CRT's I'm stuck
I have a Barco Reality 909 with SEMU (soft edge modulation unit) fitted.
All is fine when the boards are connected except I very slowly over about a minute lose the green signal. I now have a second projector do the same to red and blue.
My understanding is that when the SEMU is switched off in the service menu then the boards should not affect the signal, I'm not conviced so I want to rip them out. Display is a single projector so they are not needed.
HOWEVER
I have removed the soft edge card and two connectors from the RGB input card.
I have also removed the SEMU board from the main controller
Probelm is the picture is now muted!! I can see on the face of the tube a very faint picture
If I increse contast and brightness the levels rise like turning up the G2 (if that was possible on a 909) but the actual image is muted almost greyed out.
I've missed something crutial I know but I don't have an instal manual for the SEMU unit
Can any one help or have the manual the can send me

Hi Roland. Have you taken a look at the 1209s service manual ? As I remember there is a section on the SEMU unit. I wonder if it might be an issue with the controller firmware.

Hi Tom
I have a Contoller from a Cine 9 which would never normally be designed to work with Semu. that contoller has a an other intermitant issue but it recognises the SEMU in the soft ware.
When I remove the semu hard ware from the controller and RGB DRiver card image greys out. like it is surpressed. does the same thing for the 909 and Cine 9 controller.

Do you have the SEMU turned off in the setup menu ? Can you read the diagnostic screen ?
As far as I know when you turn off the SEMU in the setup mode it is about the same as removing it.

I've heard this too but there is no better way of being sure than pulling it out of the machine.
A lot of barco options needed something like a diode or such to be removed, which is why I was hoping an install manual would surface.
Nothing in any of my service manual 909, 1209s 808s about SEMU
I've sent all my palls at Barco emails and a message mad mrh. Ghost town

On the earlier model there are three jumpers that must be re-soldered on the
rgb input board when the semu is removed. But I have not seen the install
on a 909. If there were long white video cables running from the semu board
to the rgb input board, then it is likely you need to find the jumper positions
and add them back in the circuit to get your video working.

I might have a picture of that. I think there is a 6 or 7 pin connector that has three jumpers on it... It will need to wait until I get the next DTV 1200 in though, hopefully by the end of the week.
Send me an email in about a week if I forget..

The SEMU as far as I know was only installed at the Barco factory hence the lack of info. It seems to me that something else might be wrong But I will leave that to someone who has seen and worked on one like Curt or Mike Parker.
I still think SEMU is bypassed when selected in the setup menu. There were also a few modifications to other boards from what I have read.

Up through the latest 1209S, video was routed out of the rgb board>to semu>and back to the rgb.
Three jumpers in the upper right hand corner of the board would be missing, and had to be
replaced when the semu board was removed. Even if the semu option was disabled in the menu,
you still had an extra 80cm or so of video cable in the chain + whatever video switching &
modulation amps involved in the semu board. So there may be some advantage to removing.
I have a ~2000 vintage semu module here with all the cables, if anyone is interested send PM.

I think we may be getting there
Yep on the 808s and 1209s links are there. Board number R762720
The board on this 909 is a R7627205. and has the two multicable connectors for soft edge3. On this board there are no jumbers or cables to cut.
I have here a BG1209s with SEMU fitted board number is R762720M AND it has the cut links and the two soft edge connectors.
Ok tried that needs to be the R7627205. page was just garbled with teh R762720M
Going to put every thing back to check I havent fried any thing
It's for the reason of that cable redirection that I want to pull this out. What else wouls cause a colour to slowly fade away?

So does color still drop out ? Sorry we here spell it different.
No doubt it was an expensive option 6-8 years ago......

OK - maybe Curt is onto something talking about a jumper on the connectors themselves??
It's been about 9 months since I had a 909 here - however, BobW (citation444 i think) has
two (2001 and 2004 models) and may be around to have a look inside??? Bob??
(he may have been blinded by that 909 stack experiment....hohoho!)

@Roland
In my R762720 there are BCL link Jumpers (when soft edge and BCL Link boards are installed).

Typical it went through the night and the colour was fine. but isn't that always the case when you are fault finding
I'm off on friday to look at a Cine 9 so I'll have close look to see if there is a jumper on that soft edge connector.
Circuit diagram for the 1209s with the jumpers to cut shows pins 1&2 3&4 etc connected. To use soft edge the links are cut so the pins are no longer linked.
The Circuit diagram r7627205 for the 909 cine 9 board shows them linked but when i buzz them out they are not.
I'm thinking now that pin 1 goes to SEMU and pin2 is the video return etc . If I made up a plug connecting them ?

Thanks for that, it getting clear that the 76270 and 05 boards are very different.
Interestingly your board has the beam current LED so is a late version of that card.
The links you point out in your picture are what I have via the connector with two wires on my top picture.
What I'd like to hear now is comebody with a Cine 9, Cine max BR909, BR919, BR908 runco 1200 with the R7627205 RGB board.but WITHOUT SEMU fitted. Is there a connector strap / Jumper in J5
The picture in my service manual does not show or make reference to one.
A copy of that softedge manula would be great.
Thanks for your help here guys
