I noticed that on my red tube, when I make focus around 0% and contrast 100% (when looking at a crosshatch pattern), the vertical and horizontal lines go to about 1.5 inch wide. Yet on the green and blue tubes, its about 3 inches wide. Do you think this is telling me something? Does it mean that green and blue tubes are not as sharp as red? or is the electronics getting old?
Draganm... do you think your mods have an impact on this? Blue and Red are about 8 and green about 7. G2 is around 63 Blue, 60 Green and 71 Red for reasonable greyscale.

Could be astig, or it could be that your best-focused setting for the red isn't 50, so it's -more- out of focus on the lowest end... what do single-pixel dots look like?
3 inches is kind of a lot... what size screen / resolution? I can only get a flare that big running 640x480 on an 84" wide screen with my Barco...

yes. I'm willing to bet 5 bucks that if you take off your neck-board covers and look at the big brown resistor, the solder joints will be burned on G + B. Green ages the fastest, then blue, and Red the least because it's hardly working. This is true for the neck-board that drives the tube as well as the Phosphor. so take of that gold cover and have a looksy

Draganm.... big claim. But you are probably right. I'll have a look tonight or on the weekend. If correct, I'll donate $5 to curtpalme.com. I reckon I owe alot more than that for the information I've received from this forum over the years. I try to give back by responding to peoples issues when I have had the same issues and resolved them. You tech guys rock!

start saving up dude, the rest of the machine isn't too far behind. 
You can't make it brand new again but you can get it pretty close performance wise.
