Need a center to go under my TV mounted above my FP. I need something less than 8.5" deep and something shorter than 8.5".

I have the following on my short list:

HTD Level2 Center http://www.htd.com/cabinet-speakers/level-two-speakers/Level-TWO-Center-Channel-Speaker_3
HTD Middy http://www.htd.com/cabinet-speakers/flat-panel-speakers/middy-compact-speaker
HTD Flat Panel Speaker http://www.htd.com/cabinet-speakers/flat-panel-speakers/flat-panel-speaker
Orb Mod1 http://www.orbaudio.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=56
Orb Mod2http://www.orbaudio.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=65
Klipsch Synergy C1http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/features/548578544/klipsch-synergy-c1
Def Tech ProCenter 1000http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/details/548200374/definitive-technology-procenter-1000
Energy RC Mini CC http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/details/542316091/energy-rc-mini-cc
Mirage Omnisat V2 Center http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/details/548399968/mirage-omnisat-v2-cc-black
Mirage Nano Centerhttp://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/features/548200741/mirage-nano-cc
Polk RM8 Center http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/details/548067127/polk-rm8-center
(Missing anything?)

I wanted to include speakers like the SCS from SVS and HSU's horn center but they are too deep. As you can see...I was just browsing Vanns and listing anything that met the requirements.

This will be rounding out a pretty budget living room setup that will be used for 90% TV viewing. The rest of the system:

42" 720p Vizio LCD
Monoprice 6.5" in-ceiling speakers
No sub (Yet)
Denon 1709 or Pioneer 819 receiver

Thanks for any advice...help...whatever you post.

PS - really annoying when I can't copy my already formatted post from other forums without having to redo all of the links! Evil or Very Mad

FYI, 6ave.com is having a "Name your price" event. For most speakers you can get ~ 40% off. I offered $550 for a Klipsch RC-64 (retails for $1000) and had the price accepted. Today is the last day for you to submit price requests so if there is anything on your list you should make the offers now.

Thanks! I put in an offer of $135 for the Def Tech based on your comment. Let's hope I get it!

I also put an offer of $150 for the Denon 1709. That would be sweet!

Came back at $158 for the speaker and $180 for the receiver. I am not sure if that includes shipping.

what do you think?

A lot of the low end HDMI receivers only do HDMI switching and can't extract the audio. That receiver also doesn't handle any of the latest HD audio formats.

I believe the prices include shipping if you select ground shipping. The price they gave me for the Klipsch RC64 included ground shipping. Considering that the shipping weight for the RC64 is ~80lb, free shipping is a good thing.

Can't get it to show up with free shipping for the receiver although the speaker does show up like that.

I just can't bite on the Denon for the very reasons that akajester noted.

I am using an HTPC in the living room and don't have HDMI so using the HD audio isn't possible at this point anyway but spending money on stuff that isn't cutting edge, drives me nuts...although $180 is pretty darn cheap for a nice Denon unit.

I want to try Audessey and Dynamic Volume. Question

Ok, the no HD audio was scaring me a bit so I spent another $80 and picked up the 507 from ACC4Less.

Has a lot of features with probably a crippled amp section but should serve my living room purposes fine. Has all the Audessy goodness too!

Might have to cut back on the center channel now though. Might try out the HTD flat panel speaker.
