Hi
Tonight I came to watch my 1251 and it powered on for a few seconds fans started then turned off, I tried a few times then stopped as I assumed it would be some sort of protection. I unplugged the power lead and left for a few mins, powered back up and it worked. Can anyone explain what this is likely to be, Is there something easy to check?

First time CRT user... but I have a problem also:
I got two projectors Sony VPH-1251q "for free" from a good friend that just got his digital one... both worked fine (one at the time) I was able to do the setup and connected satellite receiver, dvd and sbos 360...used s-video and composite video to VGA cable also. All fine but on the first one all of a sudden it stop working...it would turn on for 1 to 3 seconds and gave me the error code 10 (means HV over) however, I have never had high voltage issues in my house.... I did unplugged and try it out a day later...al powered up ok but the it did the same...
Removed the projector, installed the spare one and it did just the same...so should I remvoe the video cards? I did unpluged all inputs and still getting error code 10 or HV-OVER error....
I am going to remove both input cards and see if one of them is giving me a short circuit...I am guessing one of the inputs migth have fluctuating voltage issues that is short circuiting the boards.... what do you guys think?

It's not a problem with the voltage in your house. It's a problem with the high voltage in the projector.
CRT projectors contain low voltage and high voltage power supplies. The high voltage is 34 000 volts.
I'd suggest unplugging the projector, wait 3 minutes, open it up and check all the plugs to all the boards. Then plug it in and see if you get a picture. Sometimes when they get bumped and moved things get loose.
REMEMBER: there are voltages in there that can kill you. NEVER play with the plugs while the projector is on/plugged in unless you know what you are doing!

After reading up on here I realised I could check for fault codes, so checked and initially thought it was an error code 10, but PJ was hung from ceiling so was 01. A quick clean and lube of fans and mines been running o.k
