Hello,
Im looking for some advice. Im ready now to set up my NEC 6PG + projector and need some help on what I will require o get this thing up and running.
Im on a budget and don't have too much to spend so I want to make sure I get the right things in order of importance.
So far I have the NEC 6 PG+ projector. I intend to make a projector setup in the garage, it would be for movies and video games, I intend to use a PS3 for both games and blueray.
So I think I would need the HD Fury ( which one not to sure )
maybe a scaler, gamma booster??
also which would you suggest to be the most economical brands??
Also Im a little confused on whethter this would be a 4:3 or 16:9 setup machine ( confused!)
And finally I don't have alot of room to play with so what would be a good scree size that would get the best picture out of this machine.
After that Im not too sure what I may need to get this up and running but should have enough for a good start.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Mike

There are loads of setup guides on the site... http://www.curtpalme.com/CRTSetupGuide.shtm

Fantastic little projector. I have a 9PG+. I used the PS3 => HDMI - DVI cable => HDFury (original) => vga-bnc cable => projector.
I did add the box 1040 for the component input at one point and the black boost, but it isn't necessary.
Also Im a little confused on whethter this would be a 4:3 or 16:9 setup machine ( confused!)
All CRT's have 4:3 tubes, you can run any aspect you want, you just use less of the vertical height of the tube. If you run primarily 16:9 and after a few thousand hours, try to run 4:3, you will start to see the wear pattern as the phosphor on the top and bottom will be still mint condition.
And finally I don't have alot of room to play with so what would be a good scree size that would get the best picture out of this machine.
I had my projector in a room 12 feet across, so from the tip of the lenses to the screen was about 9 feet. I was able to max the rasters leaving 1/4" of unused tube around the edges - most think that is too little around the edge, but I wanted a big picture. I was able to get an image about 7.5 feet wide. Not as big as I wanted, but it will do.
Read the setup guide (many times) and take your time. The biggest key is getting the cross hair dead center on the three tubes. if you have it "bang on" then it is less likely to have convergence drift. Expect it to take a full weekend or evenings all week. Once you have it set up well once, you shouldn't have to do it again unless you move.
Also, make sure it's been warmed up for a half hour before you start.
Set your PS3 to 1080i or 720p first as well, don't expect 1080p out of it. Mine won't do it and it pushes those old electronics really hard if you could.
Let us know if you need anything else.

Current Projector Marquee9501LC with PS3 (BLu-Ray) at 1080P LOVE IT! Screen is an Elunevision 120" 4:3 (2.4 gain - no hotspots). (also own a NEC 9PG+)

Thanks Mr.Green, I look forward to enjoying my set up.
So you don't think I would need a Gamma control device?? and the HD fury 2 wouldn't be necessary??

You won't need the HDFury2.
I'd recommend the HDFury1 with a power supply in case you decide to use it with a cable box or satelite box later on. Orger the 5 BNC RGBHV cable for it ( included in the kit ).
Where you projector sit's determines what size your screen it. There are no zoom lenses on these. You maximize the image on the face of the tubes and see how big the picture is on your wall. Stay under 8 foot wide or you'll have to drive the tubes too hard to light up the screen. to "zoom" you move the projector forward and backward.
