Has anyone figured a nice simple and reliable method to trigger a screen motor when turning on a Barco BD808s? I am considering using a relay with a low current trigger driven off of the power LED. Kinda hoping someone has found a simplier solution. Any ideas?

That's pretty much what you need to do. Runco puts in a little PC board on the SMPS and brings a jack out to the back of the set.
THe LED only has 1.7 volts on it or so, you probably need to get into the SMPS to tap into it.

Thanks for the follow up Curt. I could dive a trigger relay with 2.5 volts which is what I was considering experimenting with and attempting to drive off of the LED. I will look at the SMPS suggestion and see if I can determine a new approach.

I bet Curt does.
Runco put a little jack in the back of the pj.

I should have a Runco SMPS here if you want to go that route. I think Runco simply tacks off the +17 volt line, and regulates the 17 volts down to 12, along with a protection resistor.
According to Runco, that board must be worth about $5K back when the set was new...

That's one of those, "I'm in the wrong business" kinda things...
I (based on a suggestion from here) got a 12-volt wall wart, and plugged it into the aux outlet on the back of my center channel receiver (I use a different receiver for center/front/rear/subs). Turn on the amp and the screen comes down. Ghetto, but it works!

Wrong Business is right. My receiver is offers multi output on stereo which I use to pass through an aux amp for whole house audio and for audio for a 32" LCD as well. I considered doing such a set up as triggering the screen from some output on the receiver but then the screen would drop when using the whole house source. I really want it only when using the projector so I am working with the projector. Now I am dropping it with a wall switch. My prior screen was a pull down which was really just left down almost all of the time and I am amazed in the difference in "whiteness" between the new screen and my 6 year old pull down. Retracting the screen definitely preserves the white.
