I tried to install a red c element. I took off the lense then put the red element on the back side of lens matching the curvature, then tried to put the lens back on. The bolts were to short and the lens would not seat. The c element packaging says hd-10 red element with a 17 on the plastic case. Does it go on like this or some other way?

It's a little more involved, you need to remove the C-element before you can replace it. Wink

On many 9500s, it's a royal PITA. You risk ripping the bellows if it's stuck too well.

Is it really worth it? Especially if your not doing the green too? Edit : never mind I re-read the link 9500's already have green tinted c elements.

"Ignorance (of proper color) is bliss" Wink Does it look good enough to YOU?

Why would you have to do the green? I thought the Marquee came stock with a filtered green?

Yes it does make a difference. here is my procedure that gives less chance of ripping the bellows but if you do rip it, no worries we can now get bellows no problem!!

http://www.curtpalme.com/Marquee_LC_removal.shtm

By the Way, where id you get a red C element? And I hope you did not scratch it or the HD 10 lens' when you tried to Jam it between the existing Clear C-Element and the Lens!!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked

Nashou, No I did not scratch either of them. They actually almost fit with clearance, no forcing at all.

The C element came with the 9500 It was just not installed it was still in an unopened box Surprised

Where has the glycol gone in your procedure?

And one final thing I was thinking about waiting for the new bellows before I even think about doing this.

Whats new on that front?

Glad you did not scratch either!! Wheeeeouuu!!! In the thread i did that procedure there were earlier post's where i used a syringe and some hobby tubing to suck the glycol out the tiny fill holes on the top of the LC housing. it take time to do. The bellows are on the assembly line schedule and i I hope should be done when I get back from my 25 day trip. Hopefully Dragan will have tested the first sample I sent him and let us know how it works. I have no doubt it will be 100% perfection Very Happy

here is the origial post: the first method was the one that can allow the bellow to rip, further in the thread i discovered the newer better method.

You need to stop right now and do some studying. Quite frankly, I'm surprised you have not broken or at least damaged something trying to stuff the red c-element between the lens and old clear element. You are in over your head . This is advanced stuff you are trying to do here. The whole tube assembly should be removed for a c-element change to eliminate the chance of getting glycol into the electronics. In the ten or so years on this and AVS forum, I don't recall anyone ever trying to do what you tried to do. Sorry but that needed to be said.

I'd agree with your earlier thought. Wait until the bellows are available and do it all at once. I'm personally desperate to find a Red C-element of my own that will go with the new bellows. Compared to my NEC, the red looks orange, not red. Skin tones are where I notice it the most. Still, there is nothing terribly wrong with the colors as they are. I'd say wait and do everything at once.

Glad to hear the beast is working! Thumbs Up

Loving mine right now. Just bought Lego Star Wars and Lego Indianna Jones for it tonght (PS3 version)!

yep she's up and running. Picture is pretty good now that I have turned up the white balance to 65. is that high? Contrast is at 52 brightness at 55.
I think I need a high gain screen. And a moome card, and a red c element installed, and draganm upgrades, and the lottery. Laughing

We'll have to let Nash chime in regarding the white balance.

I agree, need upgrading... and a lotto win!

dude, than kind of fumbling and bumbling will cause you endless grief. You really need to read a lot more before you do anything inside a CRT.

I'm trying, the tube in that assembly was burnt too and I did not want to put in a new bellow with the old burnt tube. I made a tool today after work to get the old tube out, hopefully it works. Otherwise it's all apart and almost ready for re-assembly.
BTW, trying to save the old bellow is like trying to re-use toilet paper. Throw that sh*t in the trash Laughing
