That is right I think I might have Redoubt Ash in my Marquee 8500 fan and it is just starting to make a lot of noise. Is it worth trying to clean this out or just purchase a new fan unit?

How far away do you live?

Quote:
The 2009 eruption of Redoubt Volcano continues. The last major explosion at Redoubt occurred at 05:55 AKDT April 4. Since then, a lava dome has been growing in the northern part of the summit crater. The shape of the dome when viewed from above is elliptical, with the long axis oriented approximately north-south. A tongue of lava that forms the northern tip of the dome has advanced about 550 yards (500 m) down the Drift Glacier Gorge. The volume of the dome as of early May is approximately 25 - 30 million cubic meters. Renewed explosive activity remains a possibility, and could occur with little or no warning. Such activity would likely result in ash plumes exceeding 30,000 feet (9000 m) above sea level, lahars down the Drift River Valley, and trace to minor ash fall on communities near Redoubt.

The ash has been floating around the city since the first eruption and with all of the snow now melted it is drying out and being reintroduced in to the air by lawnmowers and street sweepers. And yes you can taste it each time you inhale and the fine ash is still everywhere.
The fan in question is the upper twin set of fans in front above the tubes. As you can tell by my excellent description of where the fans are I am well versed in the technical terms of my marquee and just as versed in being able to replace said fans in question. Actually it looks like even I might be able to replace these, they are outside of the main box thingy, and only 5 screws to take off to get to them, finally something I might not be able to break or to terrified to try.

Dude, take some precautions. Not only for the PJ. I've seen respiratory problems up close.... dont do it. No matter how tough you are, when you cant breathe....

From the CDC website.. (dont want some a-hole jumping on me again)

http://emergency.cdc.gov/disasters/volcanoes/after.asp

Exposure to ash can harm your health, particularly the respiratory (breathing) tract. To protect yourself while you are outdoors or while you are cleaning up ash that has gotten indoors, a disposable particulate respirator (also known as an “air purifying respirator”) may be considered. An N-95 respirator is the most common type of disposable particulate respirator and can be purchased at businesses such as hardware stores. It is important to follow directions for proper use of this respirator. For more information, see NIOSH-Approved Disposable Particulate Respirators (Filtering Facepieces). If you don’t have a disposable particulate respirator, you can protect yourself by using a nuisance dust mask as a last resort, but you should stay outdoors for only short periods while dust is falling. Nuisance dust masks can provide comfort and relief from exposure to relatively non-hazardous contaminants such as pollen, but they do not offer as much protection as a particulate respirator. Note that disposable particulate respirators do not filter toxic gases and vapors.

Yo Scott;

Long time no hearee.............

Hope everything is well with you and your lovely wife.

The thingee with the fans (above the CRTs) is the Low Voltage Power Supply.
If you haven't had the Tim Martin noise reduction mods done to the LVPS,
now would be an excellent time to send it to Tim Martin. Have him reduce
the LVPS noise, and replace the fans, and you're good to quietly go into
the night.............

William

PS: Are you coming to my blend meet in October?
