Use good cables, keep them away from electrical lines, and you can go for 100' feet no problems. Lower resolutions will work better too. Depends on the source driving them too.

If you need to boost your component cable run add a BUF 2000, you won't ba able to use the gamma stage but it will allow you to drive longer cables.

Not sure. I don't have anything longer than 12 foot in my HDMI cable collection or I would test it for you.

I'd say as long as you go with a quality bluejeans cable, you can go as long as whatever they offer. I'm running 1080i over their economy 25 footer and it works great.

I wish I could remember where I read that going past 25 ft would cause problems.I read the players dont always have enough output energy to drive the cable past 25ft and some kind of repeater/booster would be needed.

Is there any truth to this? Or is it snake oil?

Kal o'wise one please help.

Well what you remember reading makes sense. It's voltage drop along the cable that causes handshaking issues combined with cable quality ( poor quality cable = bad digital signal) . If there's too much voltage drop you don't get the HDMI handshake. Allot of devices don't put out enough power( this is the reason you need a power supply with an HDFury ). Most people are hooking up to a TV with a 6 foot cable. That's industry standard. It's what the manufactuers guess you are going to do with it.

The other problem was the HDMI spec. It was a non standard- standard. The specification says 50ma minimum and 500ma maximum. Very few devices produce 500ma.( PS3 and XBox360 do ) Keep in mind because we are dealing with digital video here the voltage and current have to be precise.

Have a look at the HDMI connector. From what I have read it won't support much more than 500ma. Those pins are small and if there's too much current flowing through them they could fail. Hence the need for an external cable driver or as some manufactures call them cable equalizers.

So will your DVD player work at 25 feet? That's a definite maybe.

Definite answers in detail good luck. Razz

Seriously though thanks that is what I read. You and I have the same Sony 550 player do you know what it's output is?

Not sure what it puts out but I can tell you with the testing I have done here that both the HDFury1 and HDFury2 require the power supplies to operate so it doesn't have the full power output of the PS3. Too bad. I was running at 1080i BTW. I didn't try 480p ( lower resolutions require less power in the HDFury's )
