|
|
I've got a chance to snag one of these locally for a decent price (assuming that its in good shape). I just don't have any past experience with RPTV to know whether the Pannys are good sets. According to the seller, the convergence has been repaired recently, which seems to be a fairly common problem with the CRT RPTVs. I'm basically looking for a good quality RPTV that I can play with for the next few months and then it will become a play room TV for the wife and kids (possible a temp HT TV until I get my new room setup in our future house).
So, does anyone have any experience with the Panny RPTVs?
Mac, by chance do you have a SM for one of these? The model number that the seller gave me was PT-WX043G, but this doesn't match anything I can find online. Everything that I've seen is more like PT-WX51 and similar.
I'm going to keep digging around, but I figured that maybe someone here would have owned a Panny RPTV in the past and could share their impressions.
Thanks in advance.

From the information that I have so far, no. I'm trying to milk what information I can out of the seller. The asking price is only $200, and according to the ad, the convergence has been repaired. I found a little more info on Keohi, but I think it was for an older model, as this one is described as having a DVI input. I'm still digging, but my overall curiosity is whether the Pannys in general were good sets, or if they were more on the low end as compared to say a Mitsubishi. May be a bit subjective. I'll update as I get more info from the seller. I've asked if I can see the unit in person. If I get a 'no' response, then I'll just move on.
Do you know if the RPTVs have hour counters like the PJs do? I would think that they would, but stranger things have happened in the electronics world...

Crt RPTV's dont usually have a counter from what I've seen but bulb RP do. Flat panels also sometimes have them.

I guess that would make it a bit difficult to determine the tube condition without the ol' flashlight in the lenses method, but I doubt the seller would like me opening the unit up to do that. Panansonic has some decent information on their retired models in the support section of their site. The only model number that I found that was close to what the seller gave me was a PT-47WXC43. The owners manual is common to several model numbers, including that one. The information seems to match what was described in the ad. It has component inputs, one DVI, and will accept 480p and 1080i sources. Nothing special on the audio, just regular ol' 2-channel RCAs.

Maybe I'll hear back from the seller one of these days.
Mac, by chance do you have the SM for the PT-47WXC43?

Thanks again for the SM, Mac. I got a response from the seller that included a couple of pics of the back of the unit. It definitely IS a PT-47WXC43, May 2003 build.
Assuming that the unit is in good shape, I'll probably buy it. Right now my other option is a Mits 55" that was built in 2000. The Panny has two 1080i-capable component inputs vs the Mits' one, plus it also has a DVI input (though I've heard that the component are much better signal paths inside the unit). The asking price on the Mits is twice as much, plus the convergence is starting to go out, which spells immediate IC replacement.
So any opinions? I know the Mitsubishis are solid sets, but from what I've read so far, the Pannys can produce a pretty solid image themselves when given the proper care.
