Thus far I have the follow equiptment:

PJI-HD from this site (just ordered it really). I come to find out the HDMI out is video only, so ill have to get a fiber optic audio cable. I have a sounblaster x-fi elite pro which has this input so I shouldnt have a problem capturing sound.

I have this beast

http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/decklinkhdextreme/

I am planning on getting this HDMI splitter/amplifier

http://www2.dvigear.com/hdmi1x2.html

does anyone know of a better amplifier/x2 splitter? Im looking for optimal performance

My goal and theory is that ill be able to split ps3 output to my tv and to the decklink card without much loss in quality.

Of course I plan on doing other things with this setup but for now im building it around the idea
of recording PS3 output at the highest quality possible.

Does anyone see a problem with my theory? any advice? please?

im a noobass

There are other threads on this subject if you do some searching. So, your theory isn't just theory - it's been done. I assume you ordered a MUX-HD... That should work fine, but as you pointed out, you'll need to capture the audio from the SPDIF. I'm not sure if the BlackMagic software supports that, but that's what you'd have to do.

There will be no loss in quality whatsoever using the HDMI splitter.

Hope you have lots and lots of FAST storage - you'll need it.

Thanks i will search more. I saw some threads, but it didnt seem like their goal was highest quality possible. Thats important with my setup.

BTW thanks for the info on the splitter. I was not sure how they worked or if there would be some bandwidth loss.

Do you know anything about solid state drives? I was thinking about getting an array of a couple solid state drives as I would guess they are a lot faster than the old wind up hard drive. Problem is theyre expensive and hold a lot less than wind up drives. how much data will I be dealing with I also wonder. Im guessing a 10-20MB a sec for video from a ps3?

SSD would be way too small. You are going to be capturing HUGE amounts of data here, as it's all uncompressed HD. Your looking more at 100-200MB/sec for 1080p. I'm not even sure SATA can handle it, you might need SCSI drives.

200+ MB/s? Thats going to be a project in itself methinks. Capacity isnt really the problem, its building something that can write at 200+ MB/s consistantly. have to figure this out. thanks for the info

got my MUX-HD and it seems to work flawlessly. now alls i need is the storage and the PC. I can get a 2TB storage server for about $2k (CalDigit HDone). This could be a half decent HDV/video/bluray authoring rig as well. Im just posting this here just incase someone has experience they can share

the plan
