I'm having problems with image "roll-over" on the left and right sides and dark or light banding on the left vertical edge (some call it raster ringing?) depending on porch size and blanking.
So who has timings that don't have massive porches and no image/raster problems?
What I'm using at the moment-
1920,40,96,240,1080,55,17,97,206269,534
(note: if you want to argue about 1080p on xg, do it somewhere else)

Jesse, because a CRT has finite RETRACE, you are going to run into the fold over issue.
At 1080p 72hz, the only way around it is massive porches, which mean that the porches get cropped, not the active image.
This takes more bandwidth...bandwidth you don't have left over with 1080p 72hz. It's a slippery slope.
I've never really played around with such high resolutions, you'll have to find the best compromise for yourself.

I set my pj back to 1280x720p today. It looks good but 1080p looks better. More detail and depth.
I may try 1440x1080 to reduce the bandwidth but keep the height res.
So I'll need something like 240/240 for the front and back horizontal porches?

With crappy lenses that can't resolve any better, I'm running 1440x900p on my barco g808s. 720p is hella coarse, to be honest, unless you're sitting really far back. I'm right around 1.2x screen width and 1440x900, for HD, is sacrificing quite a bit of visual impact, I suspect.
I'd do 48 over 72 if your PJ's bandwidth is anything like mine - a quick look at the tubes running 1080p72 indeed showed the results to be very, very soft.

I don't like the scanlines and noise at 1080i96hz. The flicker gives me a headache at 48hz.
Here is the 1080p@72Hz timing I use with positive sync. Yes the pixel clock is very high, but I still manage the 1:1 pattern below.
The pattern @60Hz is slightly better but the motion Judder IMO is really bad. I have a slight amount of gullwing at the top, maybe 3/16" on a 8' wide screen.
IMO its very important to maximize your raster size. I also set the image position to eliminate foldover then use the reference raster centering to position the image on the screen, being careful not to over shoot the edge of the tube.
I've tried all different timings and resolutions and I keep going back to these.
BTW this is all analog, (RGBHV) out of the ATI/Asus 3850 no Moome or Fury. I do have a Box 1021 in the signal path for a gamma boost.
And a couple screen shots from the HD-DVD GranPrix.

I tried those timings and the raster ringing is mostly gone. Doesn't that vertical back porch seem large? When I looked into the tubes to center the image in the raster there was a very large unused area. It's not as sharp as the smaller timings I pasted above.

Jesse, Are you using analog or digital to the projector? I'm analog all the way, no Moome no Fury, IMO with an HTPC they are a wait of money. I do have a Box 1021 for Gamma but it doesn't change the raster at all. I will be honest mine can take a while for it sharpen up. It's watchable after about a 15 minute warmup, but can take 1-1/2 hours to be tacky sharp

ATI 2600XT thru VGA to Extron 108. Then RGBs to nec. The Extron isn't doing any position control.

I thought those 1080p timings were ok but I'm seeing streaking now. 720p definitely isn't as good and 1080i isn't a good solution. Sigh.
