|
Hey Guys,
So I was watching a movie last night on my setup and the picture suddenly turned yellowish. There was no load noise (PJ is directly above me) no smoke or anything, bit I looked at the front of the Dwin and sure enough the Blue tube is out.
I had this happen before and it was a bad Neck Board. In that case the tube was totally dead, but this time the back of the tube is still glowing. No sign of life in the front half however. Any advice is welcomed!

Could be an open cable from the source to the projector if you're feeling lucky... Try swapping the Blue and Green input cable on the projector.

I was looking at that but all three boards are different. It may be just for sizing issues and that the functionality is the same but the pins do not line up.

Ok, I got into the projector. I actually had a spare set up neck boards and as my Red Tube went out last time.
I still have a board for the blue tube.
I swapped them out and viola I had my Blue tube back on.
BUT
Now the Blue is overpowering the other two tubes. I went into the electronic menus and the blue gain is set to zero.
I went back to the dreaded g2 controls and carefully adjusted the blue pot. No effect. The blue focus pot works, but not the gain.
Any ideas

Sounds like you need to try a different neck board. What video amp does the Dwin 700 use ? Never really seen one and the service manual from Dwin seems to be impossible to find...

Tom,
Thanks for your help!
I am not sure about the video amp? Have to ask Curt on that one.
The replacement board that I used did come out of a working PJ though. I was using the old Dwin before I bought the one I have now, and switched to the new PJ only because the case on the new one was black and not white.
Could it be a bad pot on the g2 box? I could probably switch the box. Not sure if it is still hot though.

Seems unlikely but maybe Curt has a few ideas and perhaps some spare parts...
Sanyo video amps.

The G2 gain control is on the actual neck board, right at the top of the board, facing you as you have the cover off. Tweak that, you should be fine.
In a buying frenzy, I ended up last year with about 10 DWIN 700s, so I have stock of parts forever and a day now.

Ah, that explains why there is nothing connected to the three posts on the back of the control box.
I will adjust today and report back, but that should do it.
Curt, I am glad to hear you are loaded up on DWIN. I am in LA and I can't reach them!
I now have two bad neck boards and one bad power supply.
Would it be cheaper to send them to you to have fixed so I have backups again?
Or should I just buy replacements as I need them?
I don't have much cash right now, so I have to wait a bit, but I do like to have spare parts on hand.
Thanks!!!

DWIN is out of business as far as I know. First they were only answering emails relating to repairs to be sent in, but now they aren't even answering those, I've heard that from a couple of people.
Sure, send them on up, I've had good success repairing them, let me know when you're ready.

Yes DWIN is gone
No worries though. Sounds like you have it covered Curt.
I got the spare neck board in and adjusted the gamma. Looks perfect! So I was only down 1 day. Not too bad at all!
I will send these boards out to you shortly Curt. As soon as I have some extra cash.
Thanks a lot guys!!!

it is sad. Someone sent me a DWIN DLP for repairs the other day. Nicely built machines, I suspect the PC boards were made offshore somewhere, but the optics etc and case were all DWIN.
Can't fix it of course, so the guy sent it to me. $12K, and it lasted 4 1/2 years.
