15 BRAND NEW IN THE ORIGINAL CRATE Marquee 8500 Ultras auctioned off at .gov liquidation yesterday. None of them
brought more than 750 dollars.

Bargain city!

Who got one?

I thought about it but I'm not pursuing that line of business anymore.

Very Happy I am not sure what going to be the game plan. I have to see what the configuration of the lens's are as they are most likely set up for portrait. TSE told me they should be flexible mounting plates that allow for either P or L orientation.

Then We have to change out two chips on the HDM to get the higher scan rates since these are limited for the Portrait orientation of the tubes, they had to limit them so it wouldn't go over the width of the tube.

The software issue is less of my concern as that can be altered easily.

I am glad Bruce and I got these 7 ultras!!!

Question Confused

$1,031.00
$1,085.00
$1,170.00
$1,040.00
$1,071.00
$1,090.00
$1,141.00
$1,179.00
$1,040.00

Add 10% auction fee and that's ~$1300. Almost $1500 with tax. Before shipping.

I just wanted to clarify this in case they plan on selling any of the extras... Some people here get offended if you sell for more than you buy for. So if you start the rumor that these ALL sold for less than $750, then buyers will balk if they are listed at $850.

Still a great deal... even for the tubes, VIM, HVPS, LVPS. I hope that the un-modding isn't too extensive/expensive. I'm surprised VDC didn't buy them back.

I got my bill from GOVLiq and it doesn't have any 10% fee just the local sales tax was added, another 100 bucks total for my two! a few went for under 700 the rest went up to 1240 i think. I was bidding on 5 and Bruce on the rest.
I got mine for less that Bruce's but he got more. Like i said in the other thread I think some one was playing with the end times for the three that went cheap. one minute they had 14 minutes left then i'd check two minutes later and they were at 1 minute or 2, one got taken for 641 !!!!

they are considered used even though they weren't open Scott told me. So they couldn't do it.

I am not sure if Clarence is talking about me or not. I don't care if some people make some money selling pjs. What bothered me is that some sellers acted like they were enthusiasists and enjoyed the hobby, but really were looking to make a fast buck. Heck, I can even deal with that, but there were some guys who would get a broken pj then ask how to fix it. After it was fixed, the person would turn around and say anyone want to buy the pj you just helped me fix. There was one person who bought some pjs on ebay by getting the BIN before anyone else. He would then list them over at AVS with a mark up and once didn't even see the pj just drop shipped it from the ebay location. I admit I have sold some stuff, but didn't make much. I just enjoyed looking at the different brands and models I came across. I considered this a fun hobby and tried to help people get into this for reasonable prices. I think I was one of the first people to help promote the gov to facilitate this, much to the chagrin of those that wanted to keep it a secret. I must confess that one person made a good arguement for keeping some of these places secret to make sure the leeches didn't get any benefit from them. Anyway, I just wanted to set the record straight. I don't think you were calling me out Clarence, but I just wanted to clear that up. By the way, I consider Clarence probably one of the top five contributors to the CRT hobby. Thumbs Up

As for the resale of the pjs, I doubt you could get more than $2k for them on the open market. They are a decent price if you are buying them for personal use, but not as a money maker. Anyway, good luck with the blend Nash.

My feelings exactly! Unless your really setup to handle these big boys like Curt is. Turning a few projectors to make $400-$500 each seems like a lot of work.

I agree the market is getting pretty soft but as for price, I think these are worth more than 2K$ - what does a brand new set of tubes from VDC run?...now buy and fit the HD145 lenses....anyone seen any NIB zero hour boards for sale? for someone looking for a killer deal on a "new" projector I think these would seem like a dream deal. Curts top of the line 8500 is 3K$ and it is not new in the box.

Really ?

Try to actually SELL something nowadays.

Curt's PRICES are where they are, but who knows where his actual SALES are...I would doubt they are anywhere near anything impressive, considering how many of the exact same projectors keep being listed....

If they were actually WORTH more than what they sold for, someone would certainly have PAID more for them, eh ?

Just because we, as a group, value what these things can do MORE than the average person, doesn't mean they will actually bring anything close to that assessment on the open market...

I'm very glad to see two guys who really appreciate CRT projectors get these. They aren't the typical crass amateur resellers....

When I last saw the auctions, after 5 PM, none had gone over 750 dollars but some were probably still in the 15 minute rule, which explains why I didn't see the final prices. The next time I went back to look, they'd already been taken off the site.
