Just picked up 2 3000's and 1 4101, the good: all have zero tube wear , the bad: The 4101 has had some major tweaking lenses have been cranked all over, the blue had about a .5" gap from tube to back of lense and the red has a bout 1/8" gap. What is the default gap, I have read 1" but that seems to compress the springs fully.

I will just play with the 4101 for now. I have done a factory reset. When I pull up the converge test pattern the blue grid is slightly lower then the green grid but the line space between them is fairly equal. The red grid is quite a bit lower then the green and is not equally spaced.
I have tried to adjust the pot under the red crt, scary place for adjustment , I don't do it with projector on( I belive it is the newer board because the pot location does not match what the service manual shows for location). When I adjust the pot c'wise the lines will converge from the centre down but will get worse from the centre up, if I adjust counter c'wise it's the opposite effect. What am I missing? I know the are linearity pots on the back but do they adjust all tubes at once or are they individual controls. I'm afraid to mess with anything more at this point.

With the blue grid pattern how do I get the blue to converge over the red with out doing it with the remote. There does not seem to be a centre option or pot.

How can I get the spacing equal between the green and the red?

I have been spoiled with my d50.

THe lens/tube gap isn't that important, as long as the gap is even all around the tube. If not, you'll get massive corner misfocusing. Also, don't overtighten, the lenses can crack the tube face. Done that... twice..Sad

Center raster shift is done via the convergence center zone control, there's no other adjustment. The trimpot under the tube is the V height control, and should match the green as close as possible. Ditto with the blue height control.

Curt

I will centre the blue on green with the converge centre controll but how do I fix the difference between the red and the green? If I move the pot just slightly under the tube it makes a big difference. It will line up the centre line and the next 2 below but the gap between lines gets bigger and bigger as you get out to the last part of the grid pattern. Would a picture help whatI'm trying to say?

Thanks for your suggestions.
