After getting my 1272 setup fairly well and I am very happy with it projecting it onto a 124" diag screen, a co-worker found out I was into CRT's and offered me up this 808s graphics
My current 1272 tube's condition
I would rate the 808's burn in at about a 6.5 on curt's chart http://www.curtpalme.com/TubeCondition_RatingChart.shtm
Looking at the projector ratings also this is another tick up on the scale from my 1272, not a 9" though and my plan was to use the 1272 until it breaks down or I tire of it and upgrade to either a g70 or a 9". Both the projectors have about the same amount of hours on it, around 2700 but he 808s has significantly more burn in on it then my 1272 from what I can see.
I guess the really question is, what are the big differences between the 1272 and a 808s. He want $500 for it.

I'd buy the 808s for 500 even if I didn't use it.

isn't curt selling 808s for around 1200-1500? So for $500 it sounds like a steal. I'm sure even with the current tube condition on the 808s the image will be much sharper. my .02

A Barco 808 Graphics will be a fairly big step up from a 1272 though the colors will be less accurate unless you change the gycol or do a lens swap. It is hard to tell from photos real tube condition. If the picture is an adequate representation of what you see in person then I think you are rating the tubes pretty conservatively. They look in better condition to me than 6.5 but that is based on the photos. The wear area is pretty broad and pretty even so you shouldn't have a problem staying with in it and it probably won't be all that obvious. Low hours on the chassis is a nice plus too. So all that said it probably is a nice upgrade for $500 since it is local to you. That would probably be my max for a non-warranteed 8" AC surplus projector these days.
All that said only you can answer whether it is worth the trouble of upgrading. Personally I would go for it. Also I think the Barco should be bit quieter (fan noise wise) than your 1272.

Curt's are the newer "S" models which have a number of video chain upgrades, more user adjustments and high bandwidth neckboards. They are a fairly significant upgrade all told and of couse they come with Curt's warranty which should not be underestimated. All that said since this projector appears local to the buyer, I would probably go for it given the price and the fact he can avoid shipping charges/risk.

My 808s with tubes similar or a bit better (they're better than 6.5 but look a bit worse than that photo - I agree that the photo suggests better than 6.5) is vastly, VASTLY superior to the 1271 I had with no visible wear. Not even close. I jury-rigged color filtering in - and you'll definitely want to color filter somehow - but the image is so much better it's not even funny.
It's not just a tick up - it's a whole damn deer!
