Welcome to the Forum!!!! Are you holding the power button down for a few seconds? the low Voltage power supplies fans are always on when the PJ is plugged in. I just want to make sure you know this is how it operates. If you are doing it correctly then Do you hear the High voltage crackle. Also check to see if there are any diagnostic lights on the back of the PJ and on the front of the LVPS(Low voltage power supply).

Yes, the power supply lights will flash and go off. How are the lights on the Back of the PJ?

I'll leave that number there for now but just a tip. In the future PM ( Private Message ) your phone number as anyone in the world can see it right now.

To remove it hit the {edit} button to your right.

You should also have hear that the fan sounds were louder now (as the 3 belly fans would have turned on).

After about 2 seconds, you should hear the crackle that Nashou66 mentioned. It sounds like your old analog TV when you switch it off.

If you didn't hear the crackle, take the lower front panel off and there is a high voltage power module (box) on the right hand side (when looking from the front) that is held by 2 screws. If there are no screws holding it, then its probably pulled out of the socket. Pull it out about 2 inches and push it back in firmly. Its worth unscrewing it anyway... pull out a bit, push in, and re-screw it.

If that didn't work, we need to dig deeper into your problem.

Because your projector was moved when you got it from your friend, it is quite possible a connection came loose.

Having done this a bunch of times, the problem I most commonly encounter is the seating of the HDM. The fix is very similar to the one radar posted. If you look at page 3 of Curt's Marquee teardown procedures ( http://www.curtpalme.com/Marquee_Teardown3.shtm ), you can see where the HDM is located and how to remove the cover for the metal frame around it. While your at it, the Teardown illustrations are excellent for you to learn the names and location of the various parts for your projector.

Once you get to where you have identified the HDM and removed the metal cover, don't unplug any of the wires. Instead slide the HDM out about an inch and then push it back in slowly but firmly. This is a little different than reseating the HVPS because the HVPS has a heavy metal case and metal posts to hold guide it into place. Here, you are sliding a pcb board into an electrical fitting using plastic guides, so a little more care is required.

p.s. now that you own a Marquee, its really handy to know how to recheck your connections. This will become doubly important if you start modifying that baby (as you likely will if you hang out here for a while).

I have posted this before on AVS forums and it is a basic general rule for anyone who gets a marquee and you do not know the complete history of it. Not sure if your freind did any of this cleaning but it should be done anyhow once a year or when problems arise.

Probably a good cleaning and reseating of all the boards is what's needed.

Here is a link to parts and boards of the Marquee. Reseating of the Focus board and HDM is just pulling it out and putting in in a few times to clean the contacts, you dont have to remove any connections to do this. Just pull up and put back in a few times. http://www.curtpalme.com/ElectrohomeMarquee_Layout1.shtm

Location of FCM and HDM.

on the hdm their is a daughter board that also need to be removed and reconected.

HDM Pic

Next on the CLM there are some chips that can be taken out from their
sockets, do one at a time. you will need a IC puller from radio shack to do this.

Location of CLM:

CLM out of Set showing chips. Clean then all, On the DPB clean U7 especially

chip puller pic:

Clean all chips with some contact cleaner or Denatured Alcohol.

I use DeOxit:

Do one chip at a time and remember how it came out so you put it back in the same way.

When get it up & running & properly aligned I might think about a HDMI Card

One other thing to check is the HV cables that run the Back plane board under the red tube, these com from the HV supply and are the G2 cables, if no G@ then no Pic. its hard to get to them, you can try to loosen the red tube swivel points but i am not sure if it will move to the left enough to allow your hand to check the connection there, on an LC unit i can clearly see the cables when moving the neck of the tube to the left while i am behind the PJ with the back heat sink down. there was a pic posted some where of the location of these cables under the red tube but I don't remember where or who posted them.

One thing you didn't mention is if you heard the crackle. If you heard the crackle, that narrows it down quite a bit. I would guess that you didn't.

One other thing to check is those thick red High Voltage leads connected to the HV splitter (see picture above). I didn't have one plugged in properly (when I was changing a tube) and I didn't get the 'crackle'. Once I reseated all red leads, I could get a picture again. Take care on how you pull them out... you need to push in and twist anticlockwise?

Rader
I did what you said & still no pic . I noticed that the HVPS glows in the dark as do the the ends of each tube . Still no crackle looks like i might need a new HVPS or have Curt fix this one . Thank You for all your help . The thing that i do not understand is that my friend said it was working . He is not a tech so he is no help.

HVPS failure is rather common on the older marquee's, not repairable either. You have to simply replace if it's bad

Did you check the HV cables under the red tube to make sure they did not come out during transport to your place?

I see a small glow when looking through the front near the bottom would it still be bad . Also I do not want to spend too much as I do not know if the tubes are good & i still have 3 sony's 12xx's . Are the Marquee's better ?
