Hey Guys,

I'm going to be running a calibration tour through the NE USA and SE Canada in March. Check the map below for coverage areas.

If you need anything done with your CRT while I'm out send me an email with your questions craigr@cir-engineering.com and I'll be happy to help.

Ohhhhh I don't know. Maybe it's because he has been doing this for quite a while not only in the States but also in Europe. He has an Engineer background so just because it looks correct, doesn't mean it doesn't get checked to see that it IS correct. He is VERY much a perfectionist and won't settle until it is absolutely perfect. And if it can't be corrected because of a problem with a board, he can also do board level repairs.

This guy brings A LOT more to the table than just lining up red & blue on green and following the Greyscale For Dummies thread.

WTF Sad

Craig is a professional calibrator with thousands of setups under his belt, still thinks CRT is king for PQ, will travel anywhere and comes with years of professional experience with the highest quality calibration equipment and even degrees in this field

you need to know anything else?

I can attest to his quest for perfection. I first found out about Craig from the home theater spot forum. Lots and lots of good words for his calibration of Mitsubishi RPTV's. He came and did mine, spent over 8 hours on it. took it apart, cleaned all the lenses redid the cpc magnets, mechanical focus, mirror cleaning, screen cleaning. Set g2 values using hi scope. sencor pattern generators etc the whole works. I was so pleased with his work that when i finally got my Marquee 8000, i decided to sign up for another of his tours and have that done as well as a touch up for my Mitsu since i had to have the red tube replaced after it died(in warranty still!). he spent two days at my place. Did the mitsu at night and worked in the theater during the daylight hours. He also has come up with some Modifications at the PCB board level for the Mitsus to eliminate ringing and take care of some other issues.

When he did my marquee he really spent lots of time with it, I watch for most of it and to me it looked great but he kept saying nope, i need to check this out first, then hed find something else he might be able to do etc. then on the night i came home form work and he was just finishing up we fired it up and i was stunned my 8000 looked so good, it had a depth to the image i have never seen before on it. I had it for 8 months by then and knew it well. well while we watched the HDM started to smoke and blew
Pure coincidence, i was lucky i had a second marquee there so he popped out the HDM and put the new one back in, now things changed so he spent another couple hours going over the whole set up again. this was close to 2 am now and he was suppose to be on the road for his next calibration in Ohio. That to me was a statement to his clear commitment to his customer, reputation and his love for being a professional calibrator. I think he's right up there with Ken.

The money i spend on all other mods and tweeks for my PJ did lees for it than what Craig has done.

Thanks for stepping in Mike, Gary, and Tom. I know the three of you pretty well now, and our relationship started the same way for all three of you... you hired me to do a calibration. It really makes me feel good when my customers show their appreciation for the hard work that I do.

Thank you so much Thumbs Up

We can probably work something out Tom if you are serious. I'd love to come by again and see the new setup. Are you doing a 9500 stack, or some sort of 8xxx stack? You seem to have so many projectors now I can't keep track Shocked

I plan to do a 9500LC stack, with HD10f lens. I was going to use the tubes in the one 9500 i got form a retro set but when i set it up in the 4:3 raster for the blend it has slight wear i can see on the top and bottom, very very slight. So i think I am going to re tube it with the hybrid Tubes I got. I want to make sure they are stable in the conversion LC i am building from the 8500 I have. i also need to get at least three bellows for this and my quest for them is getting closer. if i can get a few more orders for them i will have the company make me new ones.

I dont think i'll be ready by the time your tour is going on. But i think we would need a couple days for this. especialy if i mount them in the wrong positions, or I'll wait for you and we can move them from the floor to the cieling.

I didn't think it was to arrogant, but maybe a better way to ask would have been "How are you better than other calibrators?"

Honestly, I thought Wan was throwing a softball out there for Craig to sell his services. To be blunt, people sing the praises of other calibrators like Ken Whitcomb (who is in the same area), so why should someone choose Craig. I remember catching a little flak for mentioning another calibrator in Atlanta even though I recommended Chuchuf because he participated on AVS CRT. The other guy (can't remember his name) wrote for one of the HT mags and was pretty well regarded in the industry. So, give us the goods Craig! Very Happy

I guess I am asking for no reason than curiosity, as with my 1272 I don't think its worth the Pro Cal. BUT! What is the range of cost for a Cal? I have no idea. I am sure alot of other ppl (lurkers) are curious as well. I know I would LOVE to have it done, but not only do I think the equipment doesn't warrant it, my bank account agrees Smile So any range would be great

Thanks

Its more than what most paid for their sets but if its something you plan to keep for a long time say the next 3-5 years the cost over that time is justifiable, it comes out under a couple hundred a year for FP CRT the RPCRT are about 650, your FP will depend on easy of set up and or how well it allready is set up mechanicly, he wont nickle and dime you. Liek I said above he easily spent over 20 hours on my set , twice the time he told me it would be, but he wanted to get it right, i was very happy the first time he showed me but he ran through some more measurements cause he saw something he did not like while running through his collection of test discs he uses for evaluating the final image. he then spent another 5-6 hours tweeking it till he felt there was no more he could get out of my Marquee, I paid twice of what i paid for my marquee(got it really cheap) but i figured spend the money i saved on a calibration and boy was I glad.
I tried to calibrate my 8500 to his calibration of my 8000 and still have not matched it, and the 8500 has HD144's the 8000 does not.
So i may be one voice to sing Craigs praises but there are many many more around the world, yepp he does european tours too from time to time.

if your a tweeker and always changing thing dont do it, but if your done tweeking and are ready for real refrence movie watching then get a pro to calibrate your PJ.

Athanasios

Thanks for the quick and informative response. I (as a tweaker) will eventually get tired of messing with it and want my new g70 to just work everyday, perfect. But till then I hope to be invited to other peoples theater to view, with awe, what could be if done right.

Thanks

Scott
