I would like to upgrade my set to HD 1080. I would like to know what I need to purchase in order to accomplish this. I would be using a Denon receiver that has two HDMI inputs 1 for cbl and 1 for blu ray player. 1 output for monitor. the denon would be my switch between the two (2). Is this possible? Thank You for your time and knowledge. Confused

Welcome to the forum!

Not sure what you're getting at when you say "upgrade my set to HD 1080", since your set is already an HD set and capable of displaying 1080i. If you're referring to what some manufacturers are now calling "Full HD 1080", or what we refer to around here as 1080p, your set isn't capable of that and won't be regardless of how you connect your sources or what you connect them through.

That said, adding an HD Fury 2 would give you the ability to switch HDMI sources through your Denon receiver, and input to the Mits via HDMI and would give you a nice, clean signal path.

That's the short version. If you have more questions, ask away.

Thank You for that quick response. I was incorrect on my set. It is not a full HD 1080. Which HD FURY 2 would I purchase and what color cable. Also would I need to buy that Box 1020 RGB to component converter. One more thing I failed to mention, my DIRECTV box is HD would that cause me any problems going through the HDFURY 2?

What are the inputs on the TV? If you have HDMI in you may be able to run right out of the Denon into the TV. If not you will need the HDfury 2 between the Denon and TV to convert the digital signal into a signal you can use.

Hi JonnyO,
You have a couple of options here. You can just add the HDFury2 basic kit, set the side switch to YUV. Connect to the 1080i component input on your TV, run the Denon into that and set your Bluray and Direct TV boxes for 1080i and your all set.

OR

Step 2, you can run the HDfury2, (set the side switch to RGB) into a Box1020, run componenet cables into the 1080i input on your TV and this will give you Gamma boost. It really brings out the shadow details.

Have a read in the Box1020 FAQ's: https://www.curtpalme.com/forum_archived/viewtopic.php@t=10131.html

No I don't have HDMI on the TV. I looked at the back of the set and this is what I have the VGA in and the two sets of components which are red, green, blue and they only go as high 480i and 480. I have one DTV input 480i,480p and 1080i and they are RCA connectors red, blue and green. As you can see i am totally clueless as to what I have. I am really sorry for wasting the forums time but i really appreciate your patience in this matter. Thank You

Use the DTV input with the component out of HDfury 2 and set the player output to 1080i and you should be fine.

The one you want is the RCA conectors Reg Blue and Green labeled 1080i, this is where you plug the HDFury2's VGA to 3 RCA componenet cable.

Don't worry you aren't wasting our time. We support the HDFury before sales and after. It's no good to give you a canned respone and treat you like you are dumb. You aren't. You just haven't been edumicated in the A/V area yet. Wink

I assure you. It's easy to plug in, and, once every thing is configured will give you a great picture on that beautiful TV! If when you get the HDFury2 you need setup assistance we can talk you through your configuration too. We'll download the users manuals for your stuff ( if we can locate them ) and talk you through step by step.

If we can't get it up and running for you there's always the option of returning it. Here's out return policy:
Guaranteed to work in your system or your money back!
Returns within 15 days are refunded 100% minus shipping charges.
Returned after 15 days are refunded 100% minus shipping charges and PayPal fees.

By the way is the VGA labeled 640x480?

I figured it would be labeled 640x480. So that's not the input to use.

Go with the component 1080i input.

The RGB cable you order isn't important as you won't be using it. You'll be using the VGA to 3 RCA cable that's included in every kit.

Most people order the Blue VGA to VGA extension. It helps if you ever need to plug the HDFury2 into a spot and can't quite manouver it in there. Some order the VA to 5BNC cable, neat if you ever get a CRT projector or monitor that has the 5BNC input. Again, not needed for your set up.

Get the HDFury2 basic kit. http://www.curtpalme.com/HDFury2.shtm

Have a look at the Box1020. You could always add it later too.

You have the 55" version of my Mits. You can use the RGBhv or Component for HD on the rear panel's DTV. This unit will accept 1080i. It will not support 1080P nor 720P. These connectors are on the far right of the rear panel.

If your sources are digital then you will need to get them to analog in one of the two forms mentioned above.
