Joe,

If you haven't already done a search for the info on GT17 throw distance, you should start a new thread called "Marquee 9500 throw distance" or something, so Marquee people will see it. I'd be surprised if the topic hasn't already been discussed at length, though.

Your throw should be just about perfect. Most of the manufacturer specs are pretty conservative, though. Using the formula from the second doc (yes, W is width, not diagonal), TD = 1.61 * W + 3.3". So, TD = 1.61 * 96 + 3.3", or TD = 157.86", or 13' 1-1/8". But, if you subtract about 10%, your throw will probably be just under 12'. Again, you'll want to know for sure from somebody with experience with those lenses on a Marquee, but rough numbers say your throw will be about perfect - especially if you have a little flexibility on screen placement. You should be able to optimize TD things perfectly.

Here's some reading material on the 9500LC throw distance subject:

As for your "backup TV" dilemma, no problem, there at all. You'll probably want to run HDMI sources, and either and HD Fury or a Moome card... Either way, just use a 1x2 HDMI splitter to split the HDMI signal and send it to both displays simultaneously. One of these, for instance:

You could also use an AVR or prepro with 2 outputs if you don't already have that piece of gear.

Cheers,
SC

When I was using a Marquee 9500 with GT-17 lenses, my throw distance was 148" and I was using a 118" wide screen. The rasters were fully utilized with only 1/8" on each side the raster unused.

Yikes! So, now that I bought the 9500 and discovered it's an Ultra, I cracked open the Ultra manual found on this site and the TD formula is *way* different than the others I've seen: TD = 1.15 * (W + 11.2). For a 96" screen, that comes out to 10.27' where with the other formula I was getting 13.16'. Holy smokes! Is this the "non-conservative" version of the formula? Even so, 22% difference! I really don't want to place the screen at 10'. Hmm...
