|
|
My D50 is coming up with error 37 (fan). I have looked on the inside and the 3 back fans are turning fine and the one little fan I can see on the board near the middle between the tubes seems to be turning but I keep getting the error every 30 seconds or so. I have left open the access panel but still get the error quickly. Is there a fan I'm not seeing?. I didn't see anything in the users manual. The only thing I have changed recently was the source location in the room and have added new longer component cables. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Not sure off hand how many fans it has but even though a fan is spinning it could still have a sensor problem. Maybe even a build up of dust internal in the fan to cause the fan sensor to malfunction. Could also be the sensor circuit not functioning properly. If you have a spare fan that you could try swapping around may help find the problem if its a fan sensor problem. Of course it could still be a fan that you haven't found yet. Happy hunting.......

I think there is a tiny fan on top of hte power supply where the power cord plugs into. Can't remember, it's been a while.
I do have spare original Sony D50 fans if you want to try and swap one like macguyer says.

Thanks for the sugeestions. Do the fans have a rpm sensor?
I am going to try and blow out the fans with a compressor and gun at lunch to see if that cures it.
Curt I will check on the power supply at lunch. I may need to get a fan from you to try. Will post after lunch.

Yes, there is a sensor in the unit, that shuts the set down when they stop, but as Mcguyver says, if one goes bad, then it can give a fan error message even if it's spinning. I've never had that happen, but it's possible.

Would you happen to have the sensor unit? Or suggest a way to test it.
Thanks

I blew out the projector at lunch as well as the fans, I cannot get to the power supply area with out removing the projector from the ceiling, but I was able to blow thru the front of the casing. There was some dust that came out but also there where pcs of packing popcorn that blew out as well. The fans seem to be moving more air out the back of the unit after the cleanout. It ran for 20 minutes without the error. I have left it running for the afternoon.

Well it was off when I came home and now it will just come on for 30 seconds or so and shut off.
Curt I can see the power supply fan and it is turning freely. None of the fans stop before it shuts off so I would suspect it is the sensor. Or it's a fan that can't be seen. Do you have the sensor or a parts layout so I can take it a part and try to check it?

The sensor appears to be working properly. If I stop one of the three fans in the back the projector shuts down with error 37. If I stop either of the 2 smaller fans the projector keeps running so I assume they are not on the fan sensor circuit but without a schematic I'm just guessing. So I am drawn to the conclusion that one of the fans rpm signals is intermitent and causing the projector to shut down. I have purchased a 3 pin 120mm case fan and I'm going to swap it with each of the original fans until hopefully I find the problem fan.

Or a problem in the fan sensing and/or shut down circuit.
Give me a few hours and I'll look over the diagrams.

Well I skimmed over some stuff and there is more involved in the fan protect circuit then you can imagine. Looks like possibly 5 chassis fans plus 1 on the power supply. Of the 5 chassis fans, 2 are regular fans without sensors, 3 have sensors. The P/S fan doesnt have a fan sensor but has a protect circuit that monitors the -15v supply to the fan and possibly the other 2 chassis fans. If the -15v supply varies or is lost then it triggers the protect circuit. Or one of the 3 fans with sensors can trigger protect.
Now you see why its not cheap to repair these projectors. It takes alot of time and testing to locate the culprit, especially when its intermittent or not instant shut down.

Can you send me the schematics? I do not see 6 fans just 5 maybe it's the fan I don't see.

I kinda already bent the edicate rules here so maybe curt will pop in with some suggestions. Of course he already said he had some fans with sensors to test with and that would be the best place to start.

Last night another member from here Disking came over. He pulled the "A" board and put it back in and the D50 came to life.
It ran for 1 hour but that was all the time I could test it, so I will start it up today and let it run a few hours to test.
Our theory:
No errors until I changed out the component cables.
The "A" board screws holding it to the chassis were not tight and I think when I pulled off the component cables I might have pulled the board slightly out of the socket.
Thanks Curt, Magyver655 and Disking for your help!
