I know this is out there somewhere and I did search on many of the current threads and other forums out there. Here's my case ...
I have acquired a 42" HD "monitor" that I have just DVI(D) and VGA inputs (no component) I went out to my local cable company and picked up the HD set top box (Scientific Atlanta 4250HDC) plugged in my HDMI on the set top box and to the DVI(D) on the monitor and got the dreaded lock down because my monitor doesn't support HDCP ... so it says. Since then I have come to the realization that I need to find something to go in between to add the HDCP support to my DVI(D) connection. Is there a switch or add on connection to the DVI(D) that will give it the compatability I need?
Thanks for any help you can give me ... I'm trying to keep what hair I have left after researching this one!

You have three options all involve another device in the chain:
1) Get a component to RGB (VGA) transcoder like the ones from Crescendo-Systems here and plug STB into it and it into monitor.
2) Get an HDCP capable DVI or HDMI device to plug into the VGA port of the monitor (for instance the HDFury or HDFury2--either will work fine for you and the HDFury saves you some money).
3) Get an HDMI/DVI to DVI HDCP "stripper". These are harder and less practical to find.

Thanks Person99!! I do appreciate it!! Now will I loose anything on the HDFury being plugged into the VGA instead of finding a converter that would plug into the DVI port?

What's the model number of the monitor? You'll have to see what input can accept what resolution. You'll need to see if 720P or 1080i/p are supported.

I may have missed something in that I am barely awake, and pre-coffee, but wasn't the cable industry required to provide a digital output that was unencrypted? They didn't have to support it, but were required to provide it. Is there not a DVI connector on your box? Has something changed, or am I still dreaming this morning?

it's labeled Tandberg which is a monitor for a video conferencing setup and it does display 1080p and below. I currently have it hooked up to the Samsung DTB-H260F and getting great 1080 display. Thanks Analog for the reply ...

How do you have it hooked up to the DTB-260F? You realize that tuner only puts out a maximum of 1080i not 1080P right?

the connections on the STB are HDMI and component. The only DVI I have is on the monitor itself (as well as VGA). As far as the cable company and trying to speak with anyone remotely knowledgable on the topic, from level two support even, is painful. That's why I come on the forum to research. I did take Person99's advice and got the HDFury ... it's on the way ... Thanks WanMan ...

no I wasn't aware of that. But I have it HDMI to DVI and it works well ...
