I use Klipsch (http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/c-2.aspx) C-2 for center channel speaker. While I like the horn type sound from speakers, they can be very directional and easy to audibly recognize where the sound is coming from.
I have one of these at the bottom of my screen. I have been thinking about putting one at the top of the screen (aiming downward) to try to make the sound not as noticeable.
Any one else use 2 speakers in this type set-up? Good idea, bad idea???
Thanks.

My philosophy has always been just give it a try and if I like how it sounds then thats all that matters. Just remember that if you wire it in parallel with the other center channel speaker your doubling the load on the amp. You amp may not be able to handle it. If you wire it in series then you lessening the load and may have to turn up the center volume to equalize it. If your going to run another amp for that speaker and split the preamp signal then that would be fine. Let us know how you make out.

I agree, try it out.
My gut feeling is that the center channel would be the WORST speaker to do this for though. The center channel should be localized in my opinion because you want the dialogue to come from the screen.

I use two of these
http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/specs/cs350/
They are amped individually, 200 watts each. Mounted side by side above the screen pointed down towards the audience. One of these was really good. It definitely made a difference from every other center channel I used. The dialogue was always strained and muffled. I'm sure that has more to do with my cheap budget and hence not so spectacular choices for center channels. 2 of these @ 200w each coupled with the RTi12's L & R bi-amped with 200w to the hi and 200 to the low on each side and the sound stage is enough to make people feel like they are really in the movie.
I can somewhat localize the speakers when I'm watching movies now though. I think it's because I am so familiar with the setup, it is my baby after all. I was looking at the mount (suspended rigidly from the ceiling centered on and slightly above the screen) and realized I am probably going to lower it some more and see if that improves it. There is no way I can go behind the screen in my setup.
Wallace, I say go for it. But what kind of amps are you using? I would agree the only way to do it is to split the signal and amplify each individually, that has worked very well for me.
Go for it

This has been an approach tried to create a "phantom" center at the center of the screen where the center speaker would be if using an acoustically transparent screen. A few people like it, but it comes with its own set of issues and most view the effects of this type of set up as undesirable.

Wallace,
I'll give a thumbs down on this. I've tried it and it didn't work for me. I think one issue was the upper tweeter was too for off plane from the R & L speakers. That was an issue for me with putting just one center in over the screen. I am much happier with the center under the screen and more even with the R & L speakers.

Hhhmmm.. I gotta try. If no good, then send the speaker back.

+1
Just use one center speaker. More than one will create more issues than it resolves.
